OLLY MURS "right place,right time"

just noticed this one as a new release on 'allmusic.com"...
christ, just how far behind the rest of the world are you America????
this was released both here in Australia and in his homeland of the UK
back in 2012...
lots of Justin Timberlake sounds on here mixed with the cocky, cheeky
attitude of Robbie Williams...
i bought this one a while ago on the strength of the "troublemaker"
song featuring Flo Rida, havent got round to hearing it yet,so the allmusic
site gave me that chance...
three singles off this one already in the UK, two here and only the
Flo Rida one in the US
album comes in with an initial score of 1.6 from me, has potential to
grow on me a bit, well, enough to like it anyway, but cant see it being
a 'classic' pop album...

allmusic review

by Matt Collar:
The third studio album from the runner-up of the 2009 season of The X Factor, 2012's Right Place Right Time features more of vocalist Olly Murs' soulful, R&B-inflected pop music. This time around Murs delves into even more of a funk sound, and tracks like "Troublemaker" (featuring rapper Flo Rida) and "Hey You Beautiful" bring to mind the sound of such similarly inclined contemporaries as Maroon 5 and the Wanted. Elsewhere, Murs touches upon some more organic sounds, as with the orchestral-inflected "Loud & Clear" and the yearning romantic anthem "Hand on Heart." This kind of balance between a brighter, slicker dance sound and a more uplifting singer/songwriter approach fits Murs nicely and brings him closer to such contemporaries as OneRepublic and Ed Sheeran. The fact that Murs' swaggering, cheeky personality comes through on what is on the surface a big, mainstream pop production is in large part what makes the album so appealing. Perhaps not surprisingly, Murs co-wrote most of the songs with a handful of producers, including Claude Kelly and Steve Robson, both of whom worked on Murs' 2011 album, In Case You Didn't Know. Also featured here are productions from Andrew Frampton (Natasha Bedingfield, Kylie Minogue), Darren Lewis aka Future Cut (Lily Allen, Shakira), and others. Ultimately, with Right Place Right Time, one might say Murs is maturing. Thankfully, that doesn't mean he's getting boring, and these songs are as pop-oriented and fun as anything he's done before.

I was confused about the relese date.

Can anyone explain why there are different release dates for different countries?

due respect mate
what does that mean?
I sign a contract saying I don't want this released in the US until 6 months after it's released elsewhere?

I know that's not what you meant
just trying to get you to elaborate on your thinking
because it makes absolutely no sense to me

i was thinking maybe they have to sign contracts with record company affiliates in different countries and paperwork takes time(legalities)...

say for example McCartney was on EMI in the UK, but on Capitol records in the US, so maybe they had to negotiate deals between the labels???, whereas say EMI in the UK is the same label as here so one contract for EMI covers all locations....

just a thought...

maybe Jerome could enlighten both of us as this happens way too often nowadays with different release dates....

i could understand different release dates back in the day because a lot of album shipments were transported by ship cargo obviously to avoid air freight(therefore more profit for the companies)...but nowadays, surely all they have to do is transfer the songs digitally and print the cds in other countries almost instantly???

i dont know really, just guessing, and it has got me as confused as you are, we'll just have to await the words of wisdom from Jerome on this one mate

another thought just came to me...
maybe if say the american record company for an artist isnt too sure how it will sell, they also wait to see how it fares in other countries then when there is a bit of hype(free promotion) they decide when to release an album...

maybe they also think...'well this isnt the right time to release this yet as we cant compete on the charts with....", i mean a lot of artists would deliberately hold off releasing an album probably if it coincides with say a U2 or Coldplay album as the chances of getting to #1 against those guys would be difficult(and at the end of the day it all comes down to profit)

another curious thing with those different release dates for albums is why does Paul Weller always seem to release his albums in japan anywhere from a week to a month prior to UK release date when he is so popular in his homeland????... i dont get that neither!?
