This was like reading two different books. First half was pretty good. Covered his early years, briefly on his childhood, then on to his higher education, through his appointment as Fed Chairman. Interesting career up to that point, having associations with republican presidents all the way back to Richard Nixon. Mostly in an economic advisor capacity. After his appointment by Reagan we slip into another gear, as he becomes the nerd we all know. He's over my head from there on. Strictly Fedpseak with forecasts what turns the wheels of world economics. Seems to have a firm grip on all that, at least he can make you think he does. It's all out of control once something triggers a run on the markets.

Honest Abe gave Ms. Stowe credit for starting the war. Very likely to be true, after this novel became a bestseller at the time having a huge affect on public opinion about what was taking place in their free country. Harriet's goal was to make slaves be seen as humans with feelings and souls just like white people. Undoubtably it had an impact on public policy decisions made by the Lincoln administration. The book was actually written in installments over a near year period for an national publication, before it was published in book form. It went on to sell an unprecedented 300,000 copies. She was paid $400 for her effort. Anyone who hasn't read this book, should.
