I did not know Liza Minelli could sing!!! Jokes aside - never heard this version. Like so many things, we tend to like the first version of something we hear - well I do anyway. Still it's a nice version so I humbly apologize (see, I told you I wasn't going to be mean this year....). And on a lighter note, the auntie on the front cover can put her slippers under my bed anytime.

was just doing some research on the song

written by Chip Taylor, who also wrote Wild Thing
Recorded by many, including Merrilee Rush, Juice Newton, Nina Simone, P.P. Arnold, Olivia Newton-John, The Pretenders/Chrissie Hynde, Dusty Springfield, Mary Mason, Melba Montgomery, and Billie Davis

Merilees was first with a #7 hit here in 1968, discovered while touring her group The Turnabouts as opening act for Paul Revere & The Raiders. The song was first offered to Connie Francis who turned it down.
Got Marilee a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, losing to Dionne Warwicks San Jose song

See, it's all a big circle. The San Jose song is one that is covered on the Percy Faith album.

The guy must have made a bundle on royalties. Well deserved too. Bloody marvellous track.

My understanding is that the first recording of the song was by Evie Sands, but problems at her record company meant it was never released timeously.

Evie Sands is one of the great forgotten performers of the era, I saw her and her daughter playing in LA a couple of years ago, she still has the voice

Don't have much by the Silver Fox, maybe one other. Another artist pegged as country but rarely
came across as that for me. One track here that may qualify. The rest I would call easy
listening. Heavy string section on most tracks. Nothing I love and three I don't like here,
making the album just squeeze into the like range. Title track was a #1 country hit and the
album a #19. Charlies last album was in 1980, but didn't pass away until 1995. Guess he had
hung it up. Much recognition for his Behind Closed Doors album in 1973, but he never came close
to that again.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Every single part of the 'instrumentation' is synthesized. This is copy and paste 'music'. Anyone notice how every riff on the keyboards is exactly the same?. No slight variation, no feeling, no human touch. Might as well be listening to an Excel document.....
