What Are You Reading ?
hatchetman Wrote:I really want to read the books. I've seen the movies (both the American one and all of the Swedish ones). I've talked to people who have tried reading the books though and they all hate them.
My main problem with the books is that they introduce so many characters so quickly that you are wondering if you should filter some of it out or if you have to remember it all. That being said the first book was definitely worth it. I'm not sure if seeing the movies would ruin it though. I enjoyed the second one too and this third one feels like a homework assignment lol but my Mom lent it to me and I'm trying to get through it so I can give it back to her. It's really long and I'm more than halfway through now and now it's starting to get good. I'm trying to use MusicHead as my role model and see it through until the end.

Frank Norris's "McTeague". The book would inspire Erich von Stroheim's butchered silent masterpiece, "Greed", which could just be my favorite film of all time

I am finished with my last book and have moved on to Abraham Lincoln - Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith! Because why not? Smile

The Hobbit
I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music

I finished this just now. It was a bit silly of course but it made me want to read more about Abe Lincoln and the Civil War. So that's cool.

Next in line Zone One by Colson Whitehead. It's described on the cover as a "Zombie story with brains.." haha!

I picked up all these books on a shopping spree but what I really want to get to is Game of Thrones but I know that will lead to wanting to read the entire series and I won't want to read these other books I bought too. So it comes last.

Stephen Ambrose - To America - 2002

Well known historian/biographer falls short here. While normally exploring pieces of history in depth, this one dices up popular opinion of noted historical figures to take a look at alternate views. Could this have been written to fill out a contract with the publisher? That's what it strikes me as. Just not what I would expect from an author of this caliber. Interesting but not good.

Grade - C

next up - Founding Mothers & Fathers by Mary Beth Norton

I tried but I really couldn't get into the Zone One, something about the writing I didn't like. Game of Thrones is pretty freakin' awesome though Smile
