What Are You Listening To?

Live debut from 1980.

Rhythm & Blues band from South London, that I caught live a couple of times about 30 years ago. Excellent live band as is demonstrated on this album.

Mainly cover songs, but delivered with energy & enthusiasm which was clearly appreciated by the rowdy audience.

With their sharp suits, NBZ were the Yardbird revivalists to The Jam's Kinks fixation. Unfortunately they never managed the success of The Jam, probably due to the lack of a writer of Weller's calibre.

City of Glass-Stan Kenton

Genius album, rich and textured avant jazz borrowing heavily from jazz bands of the 40s. In that sense it reminds me of Mingus, and I think I've said enough about Mingus

Their studio debut, released in 1981.

This comes in a 2-disc set with the previous one, so while it was out...

This is almost all their own material, but consists of the same propulsive Rhythm & Blues that made their name. Produced by Glyn Johns, whose previous work included The Stones, The Who, The Faces, & the early Eagles, and boy does it show !!

Wonderful recording of some spine-tingling music.

Strangely enough, whilst discussing this band with someone over the weekend I was asked if they're still together. Checked their website, and they're still working, and are playing live at a small theatre about 15 miles away in a couple of weeks. Needless to say, we've booked tickets...

Hello all. I am a newbie here, but I look forward to sharing views and getting some interesting recommendations. I have recently returned to that great live album from Joe Bonamassa: Live From The Royal Albert Hall (2010). A stunning effort from probably the best guitarist around today.

A 12 track best of set from the original crooner. That barely makes a dent, even of his best. Budget priced though,
so can't complain. Ten of these were #1's, and one #2. Frank learned it from this guy. Peak popularity was in the
30's, 40's and remained so through the 50's. Most of these tracks are from that early period. Some from his movie
roles of which he had 79. Bing could do them both with ease. The best selling single of all time, White Christmas,
from his 1942 movie, Holiday Inn. Favorite here for me is Don't Fence Me In performed with the Andrews Sisters.
Crosby remained in show business in one form or another for 50+ years and died in 1977. He recorded his final album
that year and did his last tv appearance, a christmas special with guest David Bowie. Bing was still cool.

Best Track - Don't Fence Me In

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don't fence me in
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
Don't fence me in

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise

I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hovels and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies
Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don't fence me in
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
Don't fence me in

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise
Ba boo ba ba boo

I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in
No Poppa, don't you fence me in

dont have any of Bing's albums, just the "little drummer boy" thing he did with David Bowie from that Xmas Special that you mentioned.

Bing's voice doesnt really do it for me...likewise Sinatra, give me Dean Martin anyday

BETH HART AND JOE BONAMASSA or the other way around ? - Don't Explain (2011)

Who can overlook the powerful heartfelt singing of Beth Hart and the flawless blues guitar of Joe Bonamassa !

Not a bad blues album here ! Hart's singing is all over the place with raunchy high tempo blues rockers to soulfull ballads.

I especially liked the Tom Wait's Chocolate Jesus cover. Homage paid here to Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Billie Holiday.
