I have their second album No Need to Argue, which contains the single Zombie which first drew me to them.
It's good, but no more than that.
Still love Zombie...

Second album proper from Canadian Post-Rock band, released in 2000.
Two discs, four tracks.
Ninety minutes of Ambientish, Proggish instrumentals with the occasional snippet of found spoken word voices. Generally the music starts with quiet, glacial sounds (think Sigur Ros), before mutating repeatedly whilst generally building to a showcase crescendo.
Mostly very relaxing music. Excellent.
RoviMusic 4+/5 stars.

I always thought of Godspeed You Black Emperor is being overdone and somewhat cheesy. I'm also pretty pissed that because of GYBE now people think post rock is entirely crescendos when that has nothing to do with bands like Talk Talk, Slint, or Disco Inferno, the bands who pioneered the genre
anyway, "Tigermilk" by Belle and Sebastian. My second favorite band behind Modest Mouse, and their second best record. It's amazing pop, with wonderful lyrics, but it isn't even a fifth as good as "If You're Feeling Sinister", which is probably somewhere in my top 3 or 5 albums of all time

Was in love with the Furs for a few minutes back in the day. This is the debut from the post-semi-punks. That doesn't mean I think they were punks who drove the big rigs. Always liked Richard Butlers rough voice which reminds me of Johnny Lydon. The sax of Duncan Kilburn was also a pleasant addition. Not that common at the time other than Roxy. Another English debut that didn't fare that well in the states, peaking at a dismal #140 on our charts. Singles of India and We Love You did get dance club play but didn't register on the pop side. Their success here would come later with Pretty In Pink. This one did go top 20 in the homeland, but the group was never that big there either. Highest charting album they had there was a #12. Two tracks I didn't like here in Susan's Strange and Soap Commercial. Three love tracks in Sister Europe, Pulse, and Flowers. Decent debut from a decent band.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
Worst Track - Susan's Strange
Best Track - Sister Europe
stupid on the steinway
so sick upon a steinway
the sailors drown
see them talk and see them drown
and see them drink and fall around
upon the floor
sister of mine, home again
sister of mine, home again
lonely in a crowded room
the radio plays out of tune
so silently
the radio upon the floor
is stupid it plays aznavour
so out of key
sister of mine
home again
sister of mine
home again
broken on a ship of fools
even dreams must fall to rules
so stupidly
words are all just useless sound
just like cards they fall around
and we will be
sister of mine
home again
sister of mine
home again
buy a car and watch it rust
sister see them fall to dust
they fall around
in another crowded room
paint me like the shirt i'm in
honestly
sister of mine
home again
sister of mine
home again

DNA on DNA-DNA
The no wave movement is often associated with ounk rock. It's funny because the whole point of no wave was anti-punk. Artists in the no wave scene saw punk as phoney. Not so much a revolution, but an another trend in rock, just like the hippies in the 60s and Elvis in the 50s. The Clash and the Sex Pistols were still rock groups writing rock songs, DNA (one of the most important bands of the no wave scene) were deconstructing music. The songs were short bursts of noise featuring some of the oddest tuning imaginable featuring dark subject matter and aggressive vocals
Arto Lindnsay, you have destroyed music as we know it, my hat goes off to you

Hard copy.
I refer the honourable members to the previous review, made some months ago.
Would only add that this album in particular sounds much more impressive in real life than via laptop.

THE WHITE STRIPES "get behind me satan" cd,2005.
fifth studio set from Meg and Jack White...recieving "best alternative album" award in that year's Grammy's.
more acoustic sounding than their precious efforts, partly because Jack wrote these on acoustic guitar and piano...
a very 1960's pop sounding set, with a touch of country and splashed with White Stripes originality in both lyrics and music.
probably my favourite WS album...the Brits thought so too with the album reaching #3 and containing three top ten hits in "blue Orchid, My Doorbell, The Denial Twist...Stateside, only Blue Orchid made the charts reching #43, but the album fared much better making it to #2.
their previous album "elephants" probably defines their sound better than this, but this is still a great album!
of the thirteen tracks, eight get love ratings, the other five 'likes', giving a final score of 2.6
