What Are You Listening To?
I always strip down a song in my mind ....Stevie and Paul singing with acoustic guitar and piano and it's a very good song...Macca released a lot of uptempo be happy songs and got slammed for it...but they sold like crazy so the number one in all of this ...the audience or consumer wins, not the critics, .... Millions liked it and in the end that is all that counts, not making money, which helps of course, but pleasing People !!!!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

Hey MH - my mother, sister and brother-in-law went to a 'private' Shawn Phillips concert in Cape Town this week - audience of 40. By all accounts, it was pretty good. Not bad for someone who is now near 70! Second Contribution remains one of my favourite folk/rock/jazz albums.

BOB SEGER & THE SILVER BULLET BAND "stranger in town" cd,1978.

i guess the best words to describe this one is "one of rock's masterpieces!"....
nine tracks of almost perfect rock n roll IMO...including two of the best ballads i have ever heard in "the famous final scene" and "we got tonite" which was butchered by Sheena Easton/Kenny Rogers IMO(butchered is probably the wrong word, their version wasnt bad, but this is far superior!).
at least five of the tracks get constant airplay here on retro radio stations, and he always ranks high in "best of" lists with these songs also...
its a shame this guy is grossy underrated, especially in the UK where he has had little chart success....but then again so was Springsteen in the pre "born in the USA" days also.
a great album by a great singer/songwriter!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

BOB DYLAN "blonde on blonde" cd,1966.

its hard to say if this is my favourite Dylan album or not as he has had so many great ones, but it must come pretty darn close to it!
originally a double vinyl set back in the day, but fits nicely onto a single cd for continuity of sound....
this is His Bobness rockin out at its best, probably his best album lyrically also IMO, but again its hard to say that with all his great lyrics through the 60s...
Dani is not a real big Dylan fan but she did like this when i played it yesterday...
with tracks like Just Like A Woman,Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, I Want You,Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again it is impossible to pick a best track on here and even though some only get like ratings, they do border the love score, so no worst tracks here either, just a great allround album by one of popular musics most prolific and consistant songwriters ever!!!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

and with 8 "***" and 6 "**" this gets a rating of 2.6 from me.

all class,class and more class!

surprised at the high Seger grade
not that I don't like him
love most of his ballad type work
not too crazy about when he rocks out

Just kick ass rock 'n' roll is the best way to describe Canada's Pat Travers. Always reminds me of Johnny Winter,
down to the little growl when mimicking that guitar. This is Pat's sophomore effort, with nothing great for me and
a couple I'll pass on, one being the instrumental he likes to throw in. An excellent guitarist, so they say. Toured
with Rush on their Farewell To Kings tour and would achieve some minor chart success later on. Can't see where this
one ever charted, but he was just getting started, showing around 20 albums, with the last as recent as 2010. Only
have three of them I think, and this one is on par as a so-so album. I'm sure guitarists would appreciate it much
more.

KISS "hotter than hell" vinyl/cd, 1974.

KISS' second longplayer from 1974, and second album release overall.
possibly their worst seller, yet it is one of their very best albums IMO.
has a very raw, edgy rock feel to it and shows them still trying to feel their way into the recording processes.
Got To Choose, Watchin' You and Hotter Than Hell are still live staples to this day, two dud tracks on here, five good ones and three classic rock tracks IMO...
Ace Frehley actually wrote or cowrote four of these, yet didnt vocalise on any as a frontman...that job is left upto Gene and Paul, with Peter Criss chipping on on vocals on my favourite track "mainline", a song originally written by Stanley with intentions of palming it off to Rod Stewart, either Rod couldnt or wouldnt do it at the time so i guess they let Peter sing it with his raspy vocals.
this album shows how fast they were devoloping as writers because they were only twleve months away from recording their ultimate showpiece "destroyer"...
