Wonderful album, with the majority of the songs being pretty universally familiar, I'd say.

Perfect for a hot afternoon in the garden...

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by this young band. Only two albums and a single so far but they have a retro rock/blues with a bit of country vibe that helps to restore my faith in new music.

The Stone Foxes manage to simultaneously pull off a retro rock/blues sound while bringing a noticeable (if somewhat hard to define) freshness.

No shortage of cojones here either as they take on blues classics and tough company such as:

Spoonful - Cover, Howlin Wolf(1960); Cream covered it in ’66 .


Rollin’ and Tumblin’ - Muddy Waters, Cream, R.L. Burnside… – Who didn’t cover this song?


Quite impressive and ambitious for such young musicians!


Their follow up album, Bears and Bulls, is no disappointment either. Highlights: Cover of Willie Dixon’s Little Red Rooster, and the surprisingly good Mr. Hangman. (You can even hear some definite AC/DC influence on this album. Always a plus in my book.)

Most recently The Stone Foxes have released a cover of I’m A King Bee (Slim Harpo, 1957). It is, IMHO, yummy, yummy, yummy!

A band that is definitely worth watching. I hope we see a lot more of them.

This sure as hell isn't jazz or blues!. What amazes me is at many points during this 'performance' the guy is twiddling knobs but nothing is actually changing in the track - no phasing, flanging or anything else going on yet they are 'playing' their sequencers/laptops. Fake!

Back to the Jazz habits with some Carla Bley! This is from an 1992 album entitled 'Fleur Carnivores' recorded in collaboration with bassist Steve Swallow.

i-Pod listening this PM in the garden.

A fine Blues/Rock guitarist who died too young. This is his debut from 1983.

I've always liked what I've heard from SRV. I've always thought of him (rather simplistically, maybe) as being like Jimi, but shorn of the excess. This is a great set of Blues songs of every stripe.

I always thought SRV was overrated and if he had not passed away, he would be compared with Warren Hayes, Derek Trucks etc now. I saw him play twice in the states when I was a lot younger, he reminded me a lot of Rory Gallagher. I would certainly put SRV in the second 11 of rock/blues guitarists.

There are loads of decent Blues guitarists out there, which can only be a good thing.

You may be right about his early demise. Still a good album !!
