What Are You Listening To?
^^
think I gave Lament and Rage In Eden, neither of which I care for

Yea, it's tough pulling something out you know you don't like.
I'm committed at that point.
Sometimes I'm surpised though.

occasionally i think "i didnt like this" or "cool, i like this one"....then opposite happens, who knows, next time i hear it i may enjoy it...Ah! music is a wonderful thing.

thing is you have to play what you pull out or you'll start getting picky everytime...doesnt happen often thankfully

DEPECHE MODE "speak and spell" 1981, cassette. #10 UK, #28 AU, #192US.

when i selected this one i thought "cool!..havent heard this for about two decades!". i do however occasionally pop out a few of their 7" singles and do still enjoy them but wasnt sure about how i'd feel about an album as a lot of the 'UK new wave' synthesized material from that period makes me cringe.
thankfully though, this album still sounds ok after all these years, the same cannot be said for some of the links i have found as theyve been replicated from VHS/Beta tapes and audio visual wasnt what it is today.
the three singles from the album are by far the best tracks with the classic synth-pop hit "just cant get enough" coming out on top.
Vince Clarke, main writer left the band after this album and went on to form Yazoo with female vocalist Alison Moyet, then went on to Eurasia, so all writing duties and vocals landed on the shoulders of Martin Gore who took the band away from synth-pop to a darker place both lyically and musically.
although this one is not as good as Human League's "dare" album it still represents the best qualities of "new wave" beats. i was also surprised to notice that the Modes are still touring and recording in the UK, having had their latest chart entries as recent as 2009, having not heard any of their material since the end of the '80s i cant comment on the band's latest output, but they are obviously survivors.

^ I'd say it would be worth checking out some of their more recent albums.

Try Violator, Ultra, or Playing The Angel. All fine albums.

On the i-Pod in the garden.

I only listen via earplugs when using the i-Pod, so I've been waiting for the weather to be good enough to listen to this in the sun. The "3D60" version of this is designed for headphone listening as it uses some super-duper mastering technique to apparently create a pseudo-surround effect.

Certainly interesting, but I'm still not getting what I'd expect from a surround experience.

The music consists of chilled Electronica with DG's guitar on full "ethereal" setting. Nice relaxing stuff. Perhaps DG needs to forget the lyrics for his next solo outing...

This straddles the border between modern orchestral music & Electronica. Some of the music is played by solo orchestral instruments, and other pieces are abstract sound collages which may be electronic, but could be treated orchestral instruments.

24 brief pieces which are designed to evoke different global locations, and Richter's intentions were that any of these could be used as phone ringtones. Anyone using any of this as a ringtone would worry me a bit...

Stark, but quite beautiful.

Blissed-out, slightly lysergic Electronic Dub from 2008.

Seismic Dub rhythms coupled with musical influences from around the globe. Bears some resemblance to Jah Wobble's world of Dub.

AllMusic haven't scored this album.
