Satire, with the tobacco industry being the target. Written about the time that the heads of all the major tobacco companies were drug before congress to confess that their product was harmful to your health. They refused to confess, but it was high drama for congressional hearings. Hadn't been that entertained since the Iran/Contra hearings. This novel centers on a spokesman for the industry and his attempts to promote his product. Highlight is his abduction and being plastered with nicotine patches. The FBI believes he has staged the event for self promotion. That is not the case but he'll never convince them. The book is humorous in parts, but doen't make much of a story for me. If it was supposed to make me quit smoking and hate the tobacco industry, it didn't work. Thank you big tobacco for giving me years of pleasure. I'm reading A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, he writes some wacky novels with dark humor. I need an escape and this is it for me. This one is about a man who meets death and has to take over the job. That's all I know so far.

![]() Read this, plus lots of other AH books as a teenager, and thought it might prove strangely topical to reread this one now...

Evangelist with his prophecies. Not much good I can say about this. Remember reading The Late Great Planet Earth when it came out around 1970 and being swept in. I was around 20. I was still stupid then. This book is filled with bible verses and the authors interpretaion of them. Starts out ok with a brief history of what led to Hitlers rise and his hatred of the Jews. From there it goes downhill, with his telling us of the second coming, how near it is, and we better be ready. Surprised there wasn't a donation envelope stuffed in the book somewhere. My daughter read this, so I did. A chic book for sure. Normally chic fliks are better than chic books. Probably true in this case too. This is a Kentucky author who normaly writes novels set in Kentucky. This is the story of two sisters, growing up in eastern Kentucky, on coal country. One is a wild and crazy girl, the other is not, or is she? The struggle between the sisters, while facing lifes obstacles keeps you interested. Then to throw in the evily portrayed coal mine owner gets it off the chic parts occasionaly. Passes for lazy reading. Grade - C next up - Once Before I Go by Wayne Newton
