Rock or Alternative. could go either way for me. At what point do you cross the line? Next up in my e-o-y purchases. I have only heard their two previous efforts. Of the three, this is the best for me. The opening track did it for me. Clip is from a Today show appearance where unfortunately they think it's as important to show the Today show audience than the band. My favorite track on here. The first single off of here was Radioactive, which was ok, but certainly not the best for me. Next single I think is Pyro, still not the best on here, as 6 tracks go a love rating. Label strategy has worked though, as the album has topped the charts globaly, except for a #2 in the U.S.. Wiki says the album is the 11th best selling album of 2010 in the U.K. (woder where they got that stat?), and it came in at #18 on Rolling Stones best of the year. So the praise is out there for these guys. Think they're at the top of their game with this album. Hope they don't blow it. Stay away from them interviews that make you look like teen-agers. It's.......uh...........unbecoming a band of your stature. Excellent live clip (Jools of course) on track 7.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Beach Side

Best Track - The End

Running with the street lights
Laughing at the grave
He swears he's gonna give it up
It's never gonna be enough
I just wanna be there
When you're all alone
Thinking about a better day
When you had it in your bones
This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end
I see you in the evening
Sitting on your throne
You're playing with a fireball
And post it up against the wall
I just wanna hold you
Take you by your hand
And tell you that you're good enough
And tell you that it's gonna be tough
This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end
'Cause I ain't got a home
Running from the streetlights
Shining on her grave
Once you had the good stuff
Never gonna fill you up
I wanna be the one who
Gives them my world
And gives them all the feeling of it
Just a little taste of it
This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end
'Cause I ain't got a home
I'll forever roam
No, I ain't got a home
I'll forever roam
'Cause I ain't got a home
I'll forever roam
No, I ain't got a home
I'll forever roam
I ain't got a home

As is usually the case, Matt Johnson's lyrics on this 2000 release are unremmitingly dark & bleak.

The themes of the album revolve around globalism, loneliness, fear, and pain. This is never going to be a barrel of laughs...

Not one of his best, but I like his take on the world, so I enjoyed it.

AllMusic 3/5 stars.

MOON MARTIN "mystery ticket" 1982. vinyl

Moon was born in Oaklahoma in 1950, he started in a rockabilly outfit in the early 1970s, from there hew became a session musician, by 1977 he was ready to go it solo and do his own thing, his first release contained a song called "bad case of lovin' you" which was later recorded by Robert Palmer, who incidently produced this album.
the US music media heaped critical acclaim upon Moon, even to the extent of making comparisons between him and Elvis Costello/Nick Lowe, however critical acclaim does not neccessarily lead to record sales, as was the case with Moon Martin.

a lot of this album sounds as though Robert Palmer could have sung these songs,a couple of exceptions being the 1950s sounding "she's in love with my car" and "paid the price". "dont you double(cross me baby)" is very country/pop crossover, and "aces with you" has shades of ELO to it. i also hear shades of Tom Petty in these songs.
overall, there is the distinct sound of dated 1980s synths.
its the first time since probably 1984ish that ive actually listened to this album, and it fairs better in the rating than i still think it deserves, but thats obviously how ive graded it today, not even sure why i bought this one, there were no hits from it and the album didnt trouble the charts either, i guess the singles (x-ray vision & aces with you) got a lot of airplay at the time???

worst track: deeper(into love)
best track: aces with you

Thought CH had done this one but can't find it. Does this search thing actually work? This scored higher than I expected. Must be that nostalgia thing again. This is the Leagues fifth album and it netted them a #1 single in the states and #8 U.K. with Human. After the label had been disappointed with the outcome of the bands previous release, new production was determined to be what was needed. Enter Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who were hot at the time. A falling out in the studio between producers and band over control (Jam & Lewis decided their material should be used), led to the band walking out before mixing completion, leaving Jam and Lewis to finish it up. Funny that all three singles released were Jam,Lewis compositions. Funny also that those 3 tracks were also my highest scoring tracks. The band were not very up on the album. Once it became a hit though. they jumped on board, and now say the album saved their career. So does the success belong to band or producers? The album went to #7 U.K. and #35 U.S. Surprised the #1 single didn't propel the album higher than that. Other than Swang making me cringe, it's a pretty good album, with 3 standout tracks. I do love Human, but went with Love Is All That Matters as my fav (love that chorus), a 6 minute track on the album, but cut to 3 for the included video single. I Need Your Loving is actually a great disco song, and you won't see me connect the words great and disco very often.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Swang

Best Track - Love Is All That Matters

Love forgiving
Love for good
Love to keep us faithful
After all is said and done
Love is all that matters

Got this beautiful situation
I’ve finally found out
What life’s about
Want to talk about it
In my conversation
Going to tell the world
Going to sing it
From the highest mountain top

Love forgiving
Love for good
Love to keep us faithful
After all is said and done
Love is all that matters

Every person pledge allegiance
All our efforts
To one common cause
Take a minute to improve a life
Form a legion
That’s united for a love cause

Love forgiving
Love for good
Love to keep us faithful
After all is said and done
Love is all that matters

i havent done this one MH, did "dare".
some of these tracks arent too bad, love "human" and "money"...."swang"...what the hell is a swang??? besides being a bad song!
i sort of went off them around their previous album,"hysteria", but i do have "human" 7" single somewhere.
i might have to re-evaluate this album as its not too bad
