What Are You Listening To?
centermez Wrote:That would actually be sick........ The pedals are on the celling and the guitarists have to control it with pushing the buttons with their noses. I'd pay to see that.

The Ploughman's Lunch. It's an excellent Irish folk album with lots of memorable melodies. I found it on itunes the other day and I can't get it out of my head.

nothing better than a good Ploughman's Lunch with a pint of Guiness

JOHNNY CASH "a christmas collection" cd,2003.

as a big JC fan i cannot stand the majority of these twenty tracks....
the problem i have with it is that Cash makes no effort to make the songs sound christmasy in any way, shape or form...he is just Johnny Cash through and through.
he also appears to be "preaching to the masses" on a lot of these tracks....must have something to do with the Jimmy Swaggart connection in the 1970s?!
of the 20tracks, only eight scrape into the "like" range, below is several of the better/passable tracks from the album

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

WILLIE NELSON "greatest hits-38 timeless classics" cd,1995.

bugger...cant find the cover art for this anywhere, i guess it has been deleted as Willie seems to put out another "best of" set almost every year...pretty sure he has more of those than actual studio albums...LOL!
anyway, another of those that Dani picked out on the weekend to play, seeing as she dose not like Paul Weller and Elvis Presley, i have to be thankful that she does like Neil Young,Willie Nelson,Finn Brothers and Nick Cave, now i dont have to dump her!
so, thirty eight tracks on this double set, mostly Willie compositions, some other classics here also covered by the perenial pot smoker!
got this album back in 1995 when it was released to gain some insight into him prior to seeing him live in concert...fell in love with this album then and respected the guy even more after a great performance here in Perth...followed that one up with his return a few months later with a ticket to see The Highwaymen (Willie,Cash,Waylon and Kris)...just greatful to actually see The Man In Black on his final shows here before his passing several years later!
oops!, got carried away, back to the album, i know Music Head always has a few reservations about Willie studio albums and in most cases he is justified, however, there are never any dud tracks on a Willie best of set.
strange also, as most of willie's songs have a strong jazz feel to them yet he is considered a country singer...i consider him to be a cross between the two....
anyway, not going to link all the tracks here as you guys should know them all, nothing here that is obscure...except maybe in the Uk where he only ever charted on two occasions in his entire career...shame on you England!
ok, so 38 tracks,14 come in at ***, 24 in at **, and no dislikes, giving an overall rating of 2.4, thus putting the album in the love range, this is without a doubt the best album i own by Willie, best of or otherwise.
i reccomend that anyone who wants to buy any Willie albums firsts seeks out a best of set as you cant go wrong there..studio albums seem to be a bit up and down affairs in both mine and MH's opinions!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

links to some tracks on offer: all these tracks are the ones that got "***" in my listening....not sure why but "on the road again" didnt get fullmarks this time round???
