Election Day

How far will the pendulum swing this time?

Pubs looking to take the House & Senate.

House looks to be a lock, not so sure about the Senate.

Come on gridlock and Prop 19 in California.

I always enjoy elections, and their coverage on TV. I hope the States gets what they want.

I know senators operate in the Senate, but what do you call the representatives in the House of Representatives ?? Are they the Congressmen/women ??

Had to look up Prop 19. Should have figured...

What we want? Ha! Who knows. A perfect world.
Country overall is pretty much split between conservatives and liberals, depending on the part of the country.

Congress encompasses both the house and the senate.
House members are just referred to as representatives. Too long I agree.

Unfortunately I don't think 19 will pass, but I'm hoping.
Once they see the tax dollars generated, other states will join in.

Radio commentary today is suggesting Barrack's health reforms will be overturned. Is this correct ?? I'd have thought if it's already on the statute books, it would stay there ?!

Coming from a country which does public health care reasonably well, I'm quite surprised Americans see this as a bad thing.

Barrack wasnt smiling on the news this morning with the backlash in your elctions, but at least he had the balls to take full responsibility for the pendulum swinging the other way...or was he just being a politician???
like Tiggi said, why dont you guys want a fair, just, free healthcare system? isnt it everyones right to expect healthcare from Govt?...along with the right to free speech, education, shelter, food and a right to feel safe in your home and community?
out here, everyone can go see a doctor and the Govt covers most of the fee. if you want private health insurance, you can have it, that costs on average $140 per month and covers all members of a household, that covers us for free optical,50% rebate on dental, free ambulance assistance, up to 80% rebate on hospital stay/operations and all your monthly payments for private cover are tax deductable....its a great system. i dont get why Americans are so against health cover for everyone....wouldnt you rather your taxes working for the people of the US than handouts to foriegn countries and ever increasing arms race??? just my humble opinion Smile

Pretty well satisfied with our results.
A split on my national candidate votes and I'll take it.
Yes the country shifted back as expected.
That's what happened to Clinton and Bush. The party out of power is always able to mobilize their base.
I happen to prefer a divided government. Keeps 'em in check.
Dems had it all, executive, house, senate and governers.
Pubs took the house and governers races.

Health Care

Can't believe someone just said "free" health care. You can't believe that it would be free if government provides it.
First off, I have no problem with my current government run health care. I use my VA benefits. We also have medicare for the elderly and Medicaid for the poor. There is not a person in the country that cannot get emergency health care. There is not a child in the country that cannot get free health care unless they have idiots for parents or guardians. Yes, there are many problems with our health care system. We do not need the governnent to take it over, to fix them. A power grab for 1/5th of the economy. Now that we've convinced the people that if they just go to the doctor and eat healthy and exercise they will live forever, it's time for the just let the government take care of you push. The only way I would be for what was passed by the dems would be if insurance companies were removed from the picture. The insurance companies loved this legislation. Require people to purchase our product, hell yes. If you don't purchase, you get a healthy fine at the end of the year. Rates have risen even more than previously. I could go on and on about this but I'll spare you.

As for the new congress overturning the bill, that will never happen. They don't overturn something that big. Pubs only have the house and it would also take the senate who still have a dem majority. Even if it got that far, Obama would veto it and they could never get the votes to override a veto. They may pass some changes to it to convince us they fixed all the problems with the original. There have only been minor changes in the bill that have taken affect. The full bill doesn't become law until 2014. That's when the real result will be seen. Can't wait for the new laws that dictate how we eat (in the form of high taxes on all that unhealthy food) and the law giving you a discount when you join an excercise club.

I understand. It must be a cultural difference. Over here, as soon as insurance companies become involved at all, prices rise ridiculously. Slightly different, but we're currently undergoing through the roof rises in veterinary bills, since pet insurance started to become widespread. It's a green light for vets to hike their prices astronomically.

Insurance is the single biggest scam forced upon the human race. They are nothing more than pyramid schemes. Everyone should pay into a fund their whole working life and if they don't make any claims (many don't), they should be refunded that money with interest. End of insurance! Travel insurance is one I particularly despise. A complete farce. They have 'constructed' legislation to ensure they maintain their hold on everyone. When there is a recession in any country, what's the one business that never loses out - you guessed it - insurance companies. It's criminal.
