What Are You Reading ?
he was the 'father' of modern singapore, a union leader who with help from the chinese after WW2 drove out the colonists and created the singapore we know today, yurned it from a tropical island into thriving business powerhouse it is in asia. singaporeans either see mr.yew as a brutal dictator or a visionary genious. he did rule for decades with an iron fist but embraced capitolism economics at the same time.singaporeans have one of the best living standards in the modern world, apparently there is zero tollerance and harsh penalties for simple things like littering, spitting etc, chewing gum is banned in the country and must be declared and handed over to customs upon entering the island.friends who have been there say that if you leave a wallet/purse etc at a cafe that it will be there where you left it when you return to locate it because theft is a serious crime. its a fine line, you have security, well paid jobs, high standard of living etc but on the other side of the coin there is no tollerance for mistakes, so this begs the question,do you want to live in a 100% safe society and remain rigidly disciplined or have more freedom but also live with crime??? very interesting.
it should be an interesting read

'50s UK sci-fi (insofar as 1984, and Brave New World are sci-fi), dealing with post-apocalyptic religious bigotry...

First read this as a young teen, and always intended to return to it when I had a wiser head, to see if I could make some more sense of it.

the 'chrysalids' look like a Dr.Who villian, the name sounds very Dr.Who also, is it a serious book or is it camp like Dr.Who?

Dear Boy - The Life of Keith Moon. Started reading this many moons ago. Decided to finally finish it. Behind the 'loon' was a very insecure and sad man indeed. Good read. His partner must have had the patience of a saint.

Certainly not camp. This is the guy who wrote The Day of The Triffids, so maybe Dr Who isn't that far off, but it's a serious book.

The creature on the cover doesn't match any of the characters from the book that I can remember.

Crazy Diamond ...............Syd Barrett and the Dawn Of Pink Floyd

An interesting insight into Syd, his problems, early Pink Floyd the departure, Dave Gilmour's part and the changes in The Band........There is some light shed on the later part of Syd's life and a look at some of the other people involved in the story.Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

Looking forward to this.

Wonder how candid he'll be about some of his racist comments during the '60s ?!
