PJ wrote & sings the lyrics, whilst Parish wrote & performs the skeletal Swamp Blues backing.
Contains a brooding version of the Leiber & Stoller classic Is That All There is ?
A much better album than I remember it being.

![]() English indie/folk band with some nice sounds on this debut. That leadoff track really hooked me and there was nothing on here I thought was bad. Compared to Mumford & Sons and this could very well go in folk also. Named after a Scottish island town which none hail from. Guess they like the name. Some critical acclaim in the homeland, headlining the BBC Introducing stage back in 2009. I think this album would really grow on me with some play. Maybe I'll get it someday and give it that. Some really nice live clips here. ![]() Haven't heard that much of these guys work, other than this album. They have not made an impact on these shores, so what I have heard is on BBC radio, which I like most of including this album. Brit band formed in 1989. Are they still around guys? Not sure how this did in the U.K. but it didn't even chart in the states, with the single of Girls & Boys topping out at #59. I love that and 3 other tracks on here, but there are a few clunkers that were meant as filler I guess, but I hate that stuff. ![]() Wow! that was bad. That was really bad. I had forgotten how bad that was. I gotta go wash ny ears out, with soap. brb................ah, that's a little better. Devo's sixth album, and a break up after, surprise. The novelty was wearing thin by this point, as the album peaked at #83 in the states, with the single of Here To Go failing to chart, even though it is the best track on here. There were a couple of tracks I didn't hate. Even daring to touch Are You Experienced should have tipped me off. No I didn't like Satisfaction either. People just should oughta know better. Another surprise, there are only 2 youtube clips available, and they are not very good. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Are You Experienced? ![]() England/Ireland/Scotland band formed in 1983. Members were initially from those countries. Group dissolved in 1993, while lead man Mike Scott pursued a solo career. Not sure how that fared, but they reformed in 2000 and are still a unit. This is their third album and the only one I own, I think. Not sure why. I like it, a lot. They just slipped by me then, like the Monkeys are now. As far as the song The Whole Of The Moon, I will say, under the right conditions, music doesn't get any better than this. This song is what music was created for. I listened to this song 5 times, and heard something new each time. The video cleared up a lot. Sucks though because it cuts off where on the record it goes on for another 30 seconds with Scott freaking out, making weird sounds. Pretty cool. This album made it to #37 in the U.K. and never came close in the states. As Iota would say, IMBECILES! I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Spirit Best Track - The Whole Of The Moon I pictured a rainbow You held in your hands I had flashes But you saw then plan I wondered out in the world for years While you just stayed in your room I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon! The whole of the moon! You were there at the turnstiles With the wind at your heels You stretched for the stars And you know how it feels To reach too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon! I was grounded While you filled the skies I was dumbfounded by truths You cut through lies I saw the rain-dirty valley You saw brigadoon I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon! I spoke about wings You just flew I wondered, i guessed, and i tried You just knew I sighed But you swooned I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon! The whole of the moon! With a torch in your pocket And the wind at your heels You climbed on the ladder And you know how it feels To reach too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon! The whole of the moon! Unicorns and cannonballs, Palaces and piers, Trumpets, towers, and tenemets, Wide oceans full of tears, Flag, rags, ferry boats, Scimitars and scarves, Every precious dream and vision Underneath the stars You climbed on the ladder With the wind in your sails You came like a comet Blazing your trail Too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon! 1) Don't Bang The Drum - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F2mML4uZRA 2) The Whole Of The Moon - *** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4NoZtmxf6o 3) Spirit - * 4) The Pan Within - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hztAzxNdL8c 5) Medicine Bow - ** 6) Old England - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4CPezSV198 7) Be My Enemy - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7V-1OuYL8U 8) Trumpets - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXU8KjV0R_g 9) This Is The Sea - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU00jvfCUJk 3's - 3 2's - 5 1's - 1 Rating - 2.2

^ The only Mike Scott solo album I have (Bring 'em All in) is a much gentler, more reflective album than This is The Sea. It's certainly worth checking out.
My favourite of the other Waterboys releases is Fisherman's Blues. It's Folkier than TITS, but I think I actually prefer it... If memory serves, The Whole of The Moon was chiefly written by Karl Wallinger, who left the band before the album was released. He started his own project called World Party. Their first release - Goodbye Jumbo - is very different to the Waterboys, but is also very good. It's one of those albums where little snippets of numerous influences are littered throughout the record without it sounding derivative.

![]() Didn't do much for me. A little too techno/pop synthesizer heavy maybe, on some tracks. Band was formed in London in 1974 and this is their seventh album. Another group that seems to have had a bigger following in Europe than here. Not complaining about that in this case. Didn't seem to find their niche till Midge Ure arrived on the scene. They had a few decent songs in their day, but not much on here to remember. Well, there was the big hit of Dancing With Tears In My Eyes, but that was just ok, and not the best thing on here, but the end of the world video clip for it is pretty cool. I believe that is the general theme of this album. The group called it quits one album after this one, reforming in '93 for one more and that was it. This album went to #8 in the U.K. but stalled at #115 in the states, with that single reaching #3 in the U.K and nowhere to be found across the pond.
