THE CLASH "cut the crap" cd/vinyl 1986
a revisit
their sixth and final album, i own all six
more of a Strummer solo set than a true Clash album
"topper" Headon, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon had already left the titanic in a lifeboat prior to this
Joe Strummer relying on previously sacked original drummer Pete Howard and a couple of blow-in guitarists to fulfill their roles
some synth-drums on here, samples and sound effects, no different to their previous album "combat rock" and while the music press praised that one they derided this one.
first half of the album is abysmal but the second half actually picks up in potential to becoming listenable.
songs still seem half baked to me but at least they sound like The Clash
the glaring reality of the album to me is that Joe Strummer really struggled to write cohesive material without the input/support of Mick Jones and Paul Simonon in a way that parallels how McCartney stuggled without Lennon at times
second best track is the single "this is england", best track for me is the cd bonus track "do it now" which was issued originally as the non-album b-side of the single.
was actually surprised i enjoyed half of the album for the first time in 39 years since its release
album scores 1.69 which is just shy of the 1.7 required to technically say i like it so therefore....
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
fave: Do It Now - The Clash
single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

MY MORNING JACKET "circuital" cd/vinyl 2011
a revisit
from Kentucky
their sixth of ten, i own them all
their first four or five albums are growers, they take time to appreciate
the ones after that are more commercial radio friendly and easier to access
this one would score 2.2 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

PRODIGY "the fat of the land" cd 1997
a revisit
UK industrial band
their third of seven, only thing i own
used to really love this back in the day becuase it was different to everything else
as time has gone on it just sounds repeatative and much of a muchness
still some good stuff on here but wears thing after the halfway point for me
album does score 2.1 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
still love this one and the freaky creepy video for it
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

PAUL McCARTNEY "egypt station" cd 2018
his thirty-eighth of forty non-Beatle releases
it does not quite fit in pop or rock or even soft rock so alternative it is...
it is filled with catchy little hooks and melodies but strangely enough theres nothing i actually like on it
theres no 'spark' to lift the tracks over the line for me, theyre just missing that 'it' or 'wow' factor
maybe its his weary aging vocals that sound tired and worn, i dont know
the songs sound unfinished, the old Paul (or should i say young Paul) would have added sparkles to make them shine
but its like the old paul (and yes i mean old Paul) has got complacent and content with half baked product
album scores 1.1 from me which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
pretty cringeworthy lyrics for an old man IMO but it was the lead-off single
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

LANA DEL REY "born to die" cd 2012
from NYC
her second of nine, i own five or six
sort of alt-pop/indi-pop i guess
as a sounds like ive got Lorde and maybe Taylor from her 'evermore'/'folklore' era
this would be pretty close to my favourite of hers scoring 2.4 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

GREEN DAY "nimrod" cd/vinyl 1997
from Cali-for-ni-a
punk band
fifth album of fourteen, i own eleven or twelve, maybe thirteen...
eighteen tracks in less than fifty minutes but still feels too lengthy IMO
not a bad album just too long and a big of filler
that said, the album rates around 2.0 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
favourite has always been this one:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

SLEEPY JACKSON "personality: one was a spider, one was a bird" cd 2006
from Australia
alt-rock band
second album of two, only one i own
this one is more pop orientated than alt-rock
listening to it i really cant remember why i purchased it because nothing comes to mind
maybe it was a discount bin buy,
either way, it scores 1.5 which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

SPLIT ENZ "frenzy" cd 1979
a revisit
from New Zealand
their fourth studio album of nine, i own all nine
alt rock, art-rock, post-punk and new wave on here
a touch of quirkiness as expected and one or two melancholy piano ballads
so overall, an eclectic album
also interesting to note this was Neil Finn's first appearance on a Split Enz album
love just about everything on this one and really like the remainder
album would rank 2.5 from me which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
one of the straightforward pop songs from the album
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.
