MO PITNEY "aint lookin' back" cd, 2020
a revisit
from Illinois
his second of two releases, only one i own though
a couple of real country songs, some acoustic type ballads and several uptempo full band songs.
nice storytelling on most tracks
nothing awful on here and a couple i love
just a pleasant allround album rating 2.2 which means...

EAGLES "desperado" cd, 1973
a revisit
their second of seven, i own all seven
could have put this in 'soft rock' i guess but country, folk, country-rock and folk-rock are written all over this one
if i had to nit-pick the album i would say "out of control" just sounds messy like a garage band and does not fit with the rest of the album, but im not and i wont, oh wait, shit!, i just did.....oh well! LOL
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

JOHNNY CASH "american V: a hundred highways" cd, 2006
a revisit
a random Cash pick today
his fifth of six Rick Rubin produced albums in the "american recordings" series
just cash and a guitar as he reinterprets a couple of his own songs plus some favourites by other artists
his frailty is evident on here in both his weary body and voice but its still Johnny Cash through and through
some really nice covers on here, others sound like he is struggling through the motions.
album ranks around 1.8 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
his aging voice and poignant lyrics sum up his life on this one:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

JOHNNY CASH "life" cd 2004
a revisit
the fourth in a run of four albums curated by Cash as to trying to define himself through song and verse.
this one is about "life" as the title suggests, the other three were titled "god", "love" and "murder".
these are basically albums that focus on a particular subject and Cash's own favourite songs in a conceptual form.
this one, Life, starts off with "suppertime" and "country trash" about his childhood and the songs' storylines ebb and weave their way through his complicated life.
through this album layman fans get a bit of a better understanding about the man, where he comes from and what got him to where he was at that given time in his life.
so many great songs on here from his childhood, poverty, personal issues, marriage and patriotism.
this is one of the albums i recommend as a starting point to those who know very little about Cash
album ranks 2.7 for me which means....
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

RODRIGUEZ "cold fact" cd/vinyl 1970
a revisit
debut album of only two, both of which i own
i guess folk, rolk-rock and psychedelic-folk fits here
so sad how such a talented singer/songwriter was ignored and remained unknown in the US (and Europe), yet was huge in South Africa and Australia of all places.
lots of social commentary on this one and one of the best debut albums of all time IMO (his follow-up isnt too far behind it either)
its simply heartbreaking that he never 'got his time' in the sun when he was in his prime
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
awesome live performance some 40 years after its initial release

LORETTA LYNN "van lear rose" cd 2004
a revisit
her forty-fourth studio album
album was produced by Jack White, he even duets with Loretta one one track and co-wrote another with her
although it is strictly country some of this has a distinct guitar driven Jack White sound,
sort of like the country tinged tunes he has on his own albums.
the album won two Grammy's, "best country album" and "best collaborative duet"
i love at least half of this album and like the remainder and a score of 2.5 means....
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
im a sucker for country 'murder ballads'
I'm in a women's prison with bars all around
I caught my darlin cheatin that's when I shot him down
I caught him in a honky-tonk with a girl I used to know
The door to my cell is open wide and a voice cries out oh no
The judge says I'm guilty my sentence is to die
I know I've been forgiven but the price of love is high
The crowd outside is screamin' let the murderer die
But above all their voices I
can hear my mama cry
I'm sittin' here on death row and Lord I've lost my mind
For love I've killed my darlin and for love I'll lose my life
I can hear the warden coming
From the clinging of his keys
But when they come to get me
He'll have to drag me off my kness
The door to my cell swings open
It's time for me to go
The priest is reading my last rights
He says dying's part of livin' ya know
And there's a crowd outside screamin' let that murderer fry
But above all their voices
You can hear my mama cry
Now they've strapped me in the chair
And covered up my eyes
And the last voice I hear on Earth
Is my mama's cry

JIM JAMES "uniform clarity" cd 2018
a revisit
frontman for My Morning Jacket, his fourth and latest solo album
the acoustic/americana/folky version of his "uniform distortion" album released earlier in 2018
so i really need to go back to listen to that one i guess...
so yeah, stripped down, laid bare acoustic version of tracks from the predecessor...
Jim's voice has a john prine/dylan-esque vibe to it...
album sounded better than the last time i remembered it to be, it rates 2.2 which means...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
