Too true. One thing I would add is that the actual structure of 'popular' music is too formulaic. No-one takes chances on trying to come up with something that is different from the normal structure. I was listening to Golden Earring's 'Moontan' album this last week and they threw all the rules out the window. They were highly creative with their compositions on this album and came up with unique sequences and unusual arrangements - even throwing in audio clips of Marilyn Monroe's voice onto one of their tracks - the result - their best selling album. Floyd did the same with DSOTM - the result - one of the biggest selling albums of all time. People seem to be stuck in the verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/verse/chorus repeat ad nauseum thing. Another thing I have noticed with 'popular' music is the lack of original lyrics and a 'hook' chorus that is repeated over and over relentlessly because they can't seem to think up anything new to add to the track. All of that points to a complete lack of creativity and general laziness. The technology is dumbing down the musicians. The 'woke' generation is in actual fact, fast asleep at the wheel.

And there is so much of it! Quality is a thing of the past and music is largely doomed, I would say. Whatever this mass popular stuff is requires no skill or talent other than the manipulation of machinery. It's enough to drive one to jazz. LOL! And to be very unwoke, (happily I might add - if not downright rude - also unashamedly), I quote Mr Phillips ...

For want of a more relevant thread - not currently watching but yesterday - I went to a Johnny Cash show at a theatre - yup - moi!! The non-believer! It's titled Sin & Salvation. The cast were good, I thought - great bassist, excellent lead guitar, multi-instrumentalist on keys, zither and percussion, and 'Johnny' on acoustic guitar and harmonica - he's a hard working muso who's been around for years - one of those inherently musical beings who can pick up any instrument and make it sound as though they've been playing it for decades. Thoroughly engrossing and I thought they all acquitted themselves well. I know a tad bit more about the man in black now than I did before! Also - I DO believe in supporting musicians where possible. So many whose names are not and never will be up in lights, but who work damn hard and have talent. Long may they continue!

JC was a complicated and often tortured soul.
he once described himself as "a dove with talons", a pretty apt description IMO.
he was an imposing well built man towering in well over 6ft int he old money and had a presence when he walked into any room apparently.

i remember reading in an biography that in the late 1980s (or there abouts) that he went to a dentist for some work, something happened which left him in chronic pain (nerve damage i believe) within his jaw for the rest of his life and when asked by an interviewer about it as to why he didnt sue the dentist his reply was simple with words to the effect of "he would have lost his house, his business, possibly even his wife and kids, for what?, his job, sometime people make mistakes, accidents happen". thats the sort of guy he was.
