NEIL FINN   "one nil" cd 2001

a revisit...
Neil's second solo album but thirteenth career album overall...
easy listening/soft rock album here...
lots of well crafted, beautiful melodies here from this great singer/songwriter...
not his best album but a terrific listen nonetheless
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

lead off track:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

JIMMY BUFFETT  cd 2009

a revisit
his 27th studio album
typical Buffett album,
songs about the beach, surf and enjoying life to the fullest
call me a cynic but sucha n easy thing to do when your dad was one of the richest men in the world and youre worth 300 million
a good album, nothing bad.
laid back and positive
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

love the humour and hints of sarcasm in this one

CAROLE KING   "music" cd 1971

a revisit
her third studio album
such a great album but would have been pretty hard to follow "tapestry" IMO
lovely melodic tunes on here as one would expect with King
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

ADELE  "21"  cd, 2011

a revisit
i never know where to put Adele, pop/soft rock/easy listening/r+b ???
anyway
"19" was good last time i heard it and never liked "25" which i purchased off the strength of this one
some great power ballads on here, some tender moments too...
girl had such a powerful voice back then, had tonsil troubles, surgery and never quite sounded the same
still a great album thankfully
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

still cant go past this one after all these years:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

AMERICA  "hearts" cd, 1975

a revisit
their fifth studio album
americana/soft rock/AOR
second of theirs to be produced by George Martin (he would produce a handful more)
i used to love these guys but the fascination has now waned, well on this album anyway
i still like it but not as much as i used to for some reason
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

their greatest song IMO:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

RINGO STARR  "i wanna be santa claus" cd, 1999

his twelfth studio album
a recent acquisition after years of searching for it
never sold back in the day and was quickly deleted by the record label
managed to find a second hand copy on ebay a few weeks ago
album opens up quite unexpectedly with a track that sounds more in line with early 70s Glam Rock (not very Christmasy at all !!)
thankfully after that we get happy, jovial Ringo bouncing his way through the album as you would expect, well, except for one tune which was originally recorded by the Beatles in 1967 as part of their UK fanclub Christmas floppy-disc collection.
look, we all know Ringo is not a great singer but his voice does fare well on these tunes (and country music too for that matter)
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

LEMON TWIGS  "a dream is all we know"

featured at #8 on MOJO's best albums of 2024 list
soft rock-pop here
lovely harmonies ala Beach Boys, Seekers, Byrds
thus the album has a distinct 1960s feel to it
if i had heard this when it was released it would have been on my 'to buy list'
great stuff indeed

fave:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

ELTON JOHN  "breaking hearts"  cd, 1984

a revisit
his follow up to "too low for zero"
less synths than that one and more rock/soft rock
was his last album to contain his 'classic band' lineup from the 1970s
a very good album, one i have always loved since i first purchased it and still to this day
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

fave on this occasion

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

DAVID CROSBY & GRAHAM NASH  "wind on the water"  vinyl 1975

from Lynne's vinyl collection
soft rock here
i like Croz but he is my least favourite of the CSNY members
theres just something about him that i cannot pinpoint
anyway, this album does nothing to enhance my opinion of his music
sure, its a very good album and nothing really wrong with his songs but theres something there...
almost angelic perfection in their harmonies as expected
love Graham's songs, like David's

PHOEBE SNOW  "rock away"  vinyl 1981

from Lynne's vinyl collection
first time listening to an album by Phoebe
it was okay, i mean there was nothing bad on it, it was pleasant to listen to
would i bother going out of my way to deliberately listen to another?: probably not.
the lady had a pretty hard life having a husband who was gay, a daughter born with severe brain damage, a career that nosedived, numerous health issues before her untimely death in 2001.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fave after one listen:
