ELVIS COSTELLO & ALLEN TOUSSAINT "the river in reverse" cd, 2006
another Costello album i have never posted on MD...
Costello's 26th, Toussaint's 22nd...
an interesting collaboration with most songs written by Toussaint and a handful written together...
lots of jazzy r+b vibes on this one...
both voices actually blend well together and Toussaint's melody style suit Costello's style too...
a good album with no bad tracks, just a solid collection of songs IMO
album would come in at 2.0 if i bothered to score each track correctly
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

ELVIS COSTELLO "hey clockface" cd, 2020
his thirty-first of thirty-two...
a recent purchase from a discount bin because i wasnt overly keen on it when it was released so i waited for it to come down in price...
still not overly sold on it but better than i remember it to have been...
a couple of rock songs, a couple of pretentious spoken word pieces, some easy listening, a hint of blues and jazz also...
overall, just sounds a bit too clumsy in the track listing,
seems to have not enough of anything yet too much of everything to accomodate everyone's tastes...
a passable album but not one i would deliberately reach for again in a hurry...
album would come in at around 1.7 which means....

SUZANNE VEGA "retrospective: the best of..." cd 2003
i guess easy listening would be the best place to put Suzie....
a 21 track career spanning compilation...
a really good collection of songs IMO

JOHN DENVER "seasons of the heart" vinyl, 1982
his 16th studio album...
most songs border on pop but i just cannot post him in that genre because it doesnt feel right (and believe me i tried! LOL)...
a decent album of uptempo songs with a full band, even some sax on some tracks...
still some of the stereotypical Denver sounds but overall a pop album IMO...
musicians on this one are a who's who of Nashville with most players having been regulars for Elvis Presley amongst others...
as expected a solid album overall

LEONARD COHEN "the future" cd 1992
his nineth...
forms part of the complete studio albums box set i received at Christmas as a gift...
i guess folky in place, a bit jazzy (as always) but strictly undeniably Cohen through and through...
opening title track was a bit daunting as it sounded like he was on a pop tangent, thankfully the album got better after that one!...
lots of excellent lyrics as usual...
just my opinion but, i really think LC should have got a 'Nobel Prize for Literature' during his lifetime...
a solid album and looking forward to listening to the other ones of his i am not familiar with...
MH, how does this album rate for you because it would come in at a solid 2.4 for me...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

LEONARD COHEN "ten new songs" cd, 2001
his tenth and first in a decade...
after repeat listens in the car over the last few days i think MH is right with his "he went downhill from there for me" in relation to his "the future" comment...
i find this album quite eratic in quality,
the songs just sound like songs and not Cohen poetry for the most part but
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

GENE PITNEY "blue gene" vinyl 1964
always hard to know where to put Gene Pitney...
sometimes he sounds country, other times pop or easy listening
either way, a decent album
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
thought i would go for this one on this occasion
