Brit prog rock band that only lasted for 2 albums. This is the first. Heavily jazz influenced as would be expected with a sax emphasis. Think Soft Machine with a female vocalist, strange Martha Meeks. With a sparse 4 tracks, the last, 24 minutes, covering all of side 2, it left me thinking this band could have made some waves. Never heard album #2, but I'd like to.

Recommended to me several years ago on MD1.

Solo release from ex-Belle & Sebastian bass player Stuart David. This is a brooding album of Electronic-Rock Alternativeness.

I've just had a look at the album on Amazon UK, & this is currently available brand new from a Marketplace seller for £1.22 including shipping. How did that happen ?? :jaw:

Brendan Benson - My Old, Familiar Friend (2009)

Brendan's latest album was released back in August and, as a fan, I was quick to pick it up. I was NOT, however, rushing to actually give it a spin for some reason. I finally gave in and put it on as background music a few weeks back, and I've barely been able to take it out since. Really good, solid stuff that I could recommend to just about any type of listener.

Robbie strikes again...

Not a band I was familiar with. Sort of Psych-Alt-Americana, which I wasn't sure of at first, but it grew on me.

I'd give it a thumbs-up.

Pretty good debut from this North Carolina band. Can't find much about them. Dead on like somebody, at least the vocalist, and I can't nail it. Dontcha hate that. Maybe Band Of Horses on the music side.

One of those hidden nuggets I think. Oregon band formed in 2002. First album was released in 2007, although some sef released ep's preceded that. This second album is based on a histroy of Boston, Mass. I guess we call it a concept album which I've always had a liking for. Hope they did their homework about the history cause the music sure is good. Not many clips at my normal site so included a link to the bands site where a few more can be found.

Charlotte Gainsbourg - IRM (2009/2010 in US and UK)

Let me be honest... I am not terribly familiar with Charlotte Gainsbourg. I know that she's a French actress and singer/songwriter. I know that she collaborated with Air on her last album. I know that Beck was the producer on this one. That's about as far as my Charlotte Gainsbourg knowledge extends.

Nonetheless, one of the tracks from this release ("Heaven Can Wait" - the actual duet with Beck) caught my attention about a week ago and immediately put me in search of more. I ended up with the entire album. Pretty good stuff overall. I felt like it did pretty much everything that a good pop album should do, and it succeeded in making me want to actually hear more from this artist. In general, Beck fans would probably enjoy the album as a whole. His involvement is quite apparent throughout the album with at least one or two tracks sounding oddly familiar.
