![]() a Netflix concert/doco based on the album of the same name: starts off pretty good as we see The Boss taking the viewer around his vast ranch/station as he explains it.. ends up in a lovely old 100yo hay barn where the band set up with a 30 piece orchestra and probalby 50 guests in the audience. there they perform the entire album. lovely idea and setting... the problem i have is that it sounds identical to the album, his vocals (at least) appear to be dubbed over by the original vocals, theyre smooth and crisp sounding, nothing like the subtle differences his voice aquires in concert so that was a disappointment to me. other than that, beautiful camera work and decent songs but could have just listened to the album... Rating: 3/5

![]() on Netflix: another Clint Eastwood directed masterpiece! seriously, the dude can do no wrong as a director... true story on Richard Jewell, a security guard who discovered the pipe bomb at Centenial Park at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. he potentially saved hundreds of lives only to be hunted down as a suspect by the FBI and their fraudulent tactics to get him to sign false paperwork. the star of the movie, IMO, is Cathy Bates who stars as Richard's mother.. superb drama, well worth watching if you have a spare 2 hrs for a story about 'the human spirit' as only Clint Eastwood can relay. Rating 4.5/5 the movie Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Jewell_(film) Mr Jewell's Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Jewell

"Paul Weller: One"
on Youtube a behind the scenes doco made during the Saturns Pattern sessions and subsequent world tour. filmed mostly in black and white by band guitarist Andy Crofts. mostly candid interviews with the band, Weller, his wife and roadies as they trek across europe and Nth America. doco uploaded to YT by Crofts to be made free for everyone to enjoy. it gives an 'insiders' perspective to Weller's on the road life. a good little 80 minute journey if you have time.

The Life Ahead - Netflix.
![]() Sophia Loren is such a star - not that there was ever any doubt about it! You'd have thought some of that sheen would have diminished, but at 86 her screen presence is astonishing. In fact I prefer seeing her in this unadorned honest role rather than the heavily made up version she presents in interviews. I watched with subtitles because the lip syncing bothered me and the accents didn't make sense in the setting. It wasn't a trial at all. Found out after seeing an interview with her son Edoardo Ponti, who directed the movie, that her voice changes when speaking Italian - he says it drops an octave, which is quite radical, but it definitely has a different timbre. So interesting. This is a story about a retired streetwalker who had been in Auschwitz as a child and who seemingly reluctantly takes care of the human waifs who end up on her doorstep for one or another reason. It's about aging, and memories, compassion and connections - sometimes most unlikely. One to watch.

Watched all the episodes of 'Offspring' - had seen a few bits and pieces before but decided to watch the whole thing start to finish over the last few days - very funny in parts but also very true to life. Asher Keddie was a real honey in her day. I think she's the reason I watched it all the way through.
