One of those one hit wonders, although they did end up with 8 albums. This was their second, with the smash hit Venus, going to #1 in the U.S. The group was formed in the Netherlands in 1967. Surprised they never had a follow up hit here in the states, as this album overall is rather good. Nice use of a sitar throughout. Very much a Jefferson Airplane sound, even a Grace Slick lookalike (well, a little). Hippie music at it's finest. Venus was returned to #1 with the Banarama cover in 1986 and Nirvana showed their respect by covering Love Buzz on their debut, although very different than the original.

...Shocking Blue...

Venus is one of those retro tunes I've heard a million times, but never thought about who sang it.

This is pretty good. I like Eye Candy, Love Buzz, and a few others. Very hypnotic.

Instrumentally, they're very talented. They seem to take the bass and the sitar a step further than the average psychedelic band of the era.
