Remastered: The Miami Showband Massacre.

on Netflix:

true story of the murder of three members, and attempted murder of two other members of Ireland's biggest band from the 60s-70s in 1975 by UltraMilitary Terrorists under the orders of the British Army/Government during The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
follows the lead up to the horrific event right up till the current day with the two surviving members still trying to get answers from the British Government.
also highlights the politics, skulduggery and illegal activities conducted on both sides.

wiki premise:  The documentary explores the Miami Showband killings, an attack on The Miami Showband on 31 July 1975 by the loyalist paramilitary group Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF). The Miami Showband were at the time one of Ireland's most popular cabaret bands, and in the attack five people were killed, including three members of the band.[3][4]

never heard of the band before but I liked the tracks I heard in the doco, checking out their Wiki they were huge in their homeland with
40 hits between 1963-1979 including 8 number ones, another 13 top ten hits and another ten making the top20.

to put it in perspective they were as big in their homeland as The Beatles, so can you imagine the scenario if the IRA bombed and killied the Fab Four!!!

heres their Wiki:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Miami_Showband

the song that really jumped out at me on the doco:

anyway, the doco is worth watching reminds me of the Pierce Brosnan movie Jerome and I both watched a few weeks ago,
Jerome would definitely get this with him living in that country.

JOHNNY ENGLISH: STRIKES AGAIN

on Netflix:

calling it a "Bond spoof" is probably the best description
stars the irrepressible Rowan Atkinson as Johnny English.
several other well known British actors also.

the biggest problem I have with the movie is that Atkinson will always be Mr.Bean no matter what he does.
also, he doesnt have the capability to hold my attention for an entire movie

Camarón: Flamenco y revolución

[Image: MV5BYTVkZjM1N2UtZTM1My00NWY1LTgzZjQtY2Rj...68_AL_.jpg]

A documentary about the flamenco singing god - Camarón de la Isla (shrimp of the islands) which was his stage name - José Monge Cruz - one of eight children born to Romani parents. For some reason or other, I've always been moderately (as opposed to obsessively) interested in flamenco - love the guitarwork and the dancing is so dramatic - the singing too which I now understand a little more after watching this documentary style movie. And the peripheral stuff - those claps and the stamping - the rhythms are so complex. Gosh - he laid his soul bare - seems like that is the deal with this genre of singing - it's expected of you and how well you do that is the measure of your success ... voice as an instrument, absolutely ... no half measures. I also wanted to watch because of his association with Paco de Lucia, who was the most phenomenal guitarist - was great to see footage of him as well. It's a bit of a tragic tale -  Camarón died at the age of 41 from lung cancer but I'm glad I've seen it - good to have a greater understanding and pretty interesting in terms of historical context too. Probably only worthwhile if one is remotely interested in flamenco.

ive always thought Flamenco was a very sensual dance, claps and stomps inclusive.

Star Trek - Discovery, set as a prequel to 'the original series' and shows how the "24 Houses of Klingon" united to despise "The Federation"

UK black comedy-cum-drama series

two series, each season 6x25 minute episodes.

starring, written and directed by UK comedian Ricky Gervais

the plot:

After Life follows Tony, whose life is turned upside down after his wife dies from breast cancer. He contemplates suicide, but instead decides to live long enough to punish the world for his wife's death by saying and doing whatever he wants. Although he thinks of this as his "superpower", his plan is undermined when everyone around him tries to make him a better person.[2] It is set in the fictional town of Tambury, where Tony works as a journalist at the local free newspaper, the Tambury Gazette

the show runs along the same politically incorrect humour of Gervais' stand-up comedy filled with expletives and touching on some sensitive subject matter.
theres humour, sadness, pain, hurt, and hope in humanity throughout the series.
so if youre not easily offended with "f" and "c" bombs, or sexually explicit banter you might enjoy it.

[Image: 220px-Keith_Richards-_Under_the_Influence_poster.jpg]

Richards can’t sing to save his life – fortunately it seems unlikely he’ll ever have to use his voice for that purpose! Maybe he could, at some point, but years of ingesting every substance known to man put paid to those vocal chords. I swear there wasn’t a single frame in the movie where he didn’t have a ciggie in his hand or mouth. He’s quite the most cheerful reprobate I think I’ve ever seen – maybe that’s what it is; he laughs a lot and obviously doesn’t give a single damn what anyone thinks of him, no inferiority complexes whatsoever – an unashamedly hedonistic lover of life which continues to amuse him, greatly.

Despite what anyone might presume given the number of times he’s fried the remnants of his brain – he’s not unintelligent and he lives and breathes (well – shares breaths with) music. Looks as though he’s riddled with arthritis but that doesn’t seem to bother him unduly and he certainly knows his way around a few instruments – not just the guitar. In this film he reckons he’s a better bassist than anything else. It was interesting to learn, again, how he and Jagger were so heavily influenced by the blues – as were any number of the British bands of the era. Clips here of Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf and Tom Waits among others. Mr Richards has certainly left no stone unturned or made no turn unstoned, or something along those 'lines', pardon the pun! Lol! Had to laugh at a Waits comment that one thing you must never aim to do is keep up with him when indulging in a few drinks – not a good idea.

What can I say – it was an entertaining watch – interesting to see his musical influences (the title has a double meaning I’d say) and to see how upbeat he remains – I don’t think he ever stopped being mischievous – he’s naughty by nature. And open too – totally unapologetic about any of his peccadillos. No idea how that body is supporting his life force, but it seems to be holding up surprising well! Incidentally, he also loves reggae and is a country music fan – mentions that some of those guys, Johnny Cash et al, left the rockers in the shade when it came to debauchery which is quite a scary thought!! Never been a huge Rolling Stones fan but it was still worth seeing IMHO. I think I tried to listen to his recentish solo album Crosseyed Heart but just couldn’t get through it, if I recall correctly.

ROBERT JOHNSON Remastered: devil at the crossroads

Netflix doco:

explores the myths and ultimately the legend of bluesman Robert Johnson.

:only two known photos of the dude.

:very little known about his life until years after his death when someone discovered his death certificate and started to back track his life.

:he was an average guitar player on a good day, he disappeared for a year and when he reappeared he was a far superior player, rumour/history tells that he literally sold his soul to the Devil at a crossroads in Mississippi.

:he created chords, rhythms and slides that eventually became rock and roll thirty years after the fact.
