What Are You Reading ?
The Woman’s Bible:The Original Femnist Attack on The Bible: Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
Introduced by Dale Spender; (Polygon Books . Edinburgh 1985)

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a leading feminist writer at the end of the 19th century grew sick and tired of the Bible being used to lend God’s authority to keeping women ‘in their place’.The Women’s Bible is a caustic and highly entertaining ( to un-believers like me) commentary of the offending passages. Her argument is that the Bible is not the Word of God but is man made and cannot be appealed to in order to justify anyone’s politics. (extracted from the jacket notes)

The Uninhabitable Earth by David Wallace-Wells. An Xmas prezzie given to me by a mate from the local pub. Very interesting reading so far. The planet's in real trouble boys and girls and the governments and big business are not doing a single bloody thing to fix it. The chicken is coming home to roost for sure.

Don’t you mean the chicken is coming home to roast?

Nothing wrong with that - in my youth my favourite thing to read was Mad magazine. Made more sense than my school books ever did.

She's right. It is man made. The various religions have been using this as an excuse to control people for centuries. Religion is indeed the opiate of the masses. If you get a chance watch a movie called 'Spotlight' - the Catholic church in full flight.

BILLY CONNOLLY  "tall tales and wee stories"

all of these tales/wee stories have at some point been part of his live stand up act.
if you are familiar with him and his style of comedy you can imaging him speaking as youre reading
these stories that embrace everything from the cradle to the grave.

for those unfamiliar with him his stories are always politically incorrect
but at the same time personal, reflective, retrospective and generally his observations of the world around him.

look, its Billy Connolly, only four words can sum it up perfectly so, in the language of Mr Connolly...… its funny as f***

5/5 (for this simple mind LOL)
