PAUL WELLER "paul weller" vinyl/cd 1992:
chart high: #8 UK
singles:
into tomorrow: #36 UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUDC_nghjrU video
uh huh, oh yeh: #18 UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16u4zoD6b7s vide0
bullrush: #47 UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkB8VW38V1I audio
his debut solo set
hints of jazz, soul, soft rock
gone are the political statements of Style Council
in come the reflective thoughts of the tumultuous previous couple of years
an album that has aged very well IMO
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Great stuff performed with real conviction and style. Even dynamic contrasts have been allowed to survive today’s obsession with compression BUT he sings off key at times. This is maybe only a problem for a few of us who suffer from perfect pitch. A condition that makes a lot of group vocals, and especially congregational singing put my teeth on edge. Let’s hope no-body notices and starts feeding his vocals through auto-tune which often manages to bleach the feeling out of anything.
Worth following so I’ve bookmarked this..

DMA's "for now" cd, 2018
Aussie alt rock band...
I have no idea what DMA stands for???....
second album...
recommended for my by mate Paul at the local cd store...
first album, previously posted, has a distinct Oasis sound, this one,
has a general Britpop sound...
debut album was good, this one is brilliant...
nominated for several ARIA music awards, but alas, failed to get gonged...
album peaked at #7 in their homeland, #5 in Scotland and #13 in the UK...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
the lead off single:
According to local industry rumour DMA stands for Direct Memory Access but why that has anything to do with a so called ‘alternative’ band I don’t know. They still get a lot of airplay Australia wide on FM station JJJ.

the name according to the band:
“The band came about from being in other bands around Sydney. I guess we had a like-minded view of what music we liked and wanted to make. DMA’s is an abbreviation of a few old names we had. It stands for heaps of things: Doesn’t Mean Anything; Drum Machine Anthems; Do More Acid; the list goes on…”.

LANA DEL REY " honeymoon" cd, 2015:
fourth album of six, I own five
I admit, ive got to be in the mood to listen to her music and today, I was
I call her alternative, the experts call her 'dream pop' or 'baroque pop', whatever
songs are in her normal dreamy laid back style
one cover, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, she shouldn't have, the song was basically
perfect, she destroyed it
the rest are originals and very good
favourite was a non-single track
the singles:
"high by the beach" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnxpHIl5Ynw video
"music to watch boys to" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kYsxoWfjCg video
my favourite:

JOY DIVISION & NEW ORDER "total: from Joy Division to New Order" cd, 2011
a compilation
starts off with several tracks from New Wave band Joy Division, never cared for them back in the day
they were just on the point of making the charts and money when tragedy struck
love didn't tear them apart, that honour goes to the vocalist Ian Curtis topping himself
band ended up morphing into New Order in the early 1980s
didn't care for New Order back in the day neither, still don't but both bands had a couple of great
songs I wanted to own and at $5 in a discount bin some years ago, this album was worth the price
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
favourite track:

So submerged in muddy digital effects it’s hard to tell if the underlying ‘music’ is of any value. The visuals, although I’m unsure what they mean, scare the hell out of me.
