What Are You Listening To?
This afternoon it's just me, a bottle of Chateaux du Plonk and Alan Parsons's 'The Turn of a Friendly Card'. Bliss.

Next up - another favourite live album. Only 4 tracks on this one but a superb production. Roxy Music's 'The High Road' - the band are really pumping on this album.

IMO, Lennon's best post-Beatle composition bar none!

Camel - The Snow Goose (or strictly speaking -music inspired by, etc)

I absolutely love this album - love Paul Gallico's book too. A go to listen that is restorative soul food for me. Difficult to listen to snippets - you have to hear the whole thing for it to make proper sense ... the pieces blend into one another and of course, the story unfolds in the music.

One where Andy Latimer plays the flute - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7esW6StGSI -

And what might be called the title track, I suppose ...

A masterpiece - pure and simple. Amazing what Mr. Latimer can do with a handful of notes. And the tone of that guitar is unique!

AC/DC  "ballbreaker"  cd,  1998:

the band's thirteenth, seventh with Brian Johnson on vocals...
comes close to being their least likeable album for me...
produced by Rick Rubin...
production is overdone on here, the band sound too 'safe' and 'sterile'
but the songs don't help with that neither...
theyre very clinical and predictable in their delivery (even for these guys LOL)…
theres four tracks on this one I don't like, that's probably more in one hit than on
all of their albums since Back In Black combined!...
album still went platinum in the USofA and triple platinum here in their homeland...

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: love bomb
best track: hard as a rock

tracks:

1....hard as a rock **
2....cover you in oil **

STEELY DAN - Countdown to Ecstasy

Never listened to this album before - it's their second. Transitional for them and their last foray into more straight ahead rock - they even have a CSNesque moment on my favourite track which is "The Boston Rag". Great guitars ...

Yes - Fly From Here - not indicative of the true Yes sound, but a magnificent album nevertheless. Play it quite a bit.

ROLLING STONES "exile on main street" cd, 1972:

the band's twelfth studio set of thirty...
originally a double set on vinyl, but all fits on one disk here...
#1 just about everywhere...
big hit was " tumblin' dice"....
so, onto the album...
lots of blues riffs...
the usual stock standard sound they've used for 50+ years....
I shouldn't criticise them for that because I don't criticise AC/DC for the same sound
on every album, but I do for some reason...
two covers, paying homage/respects to Slim Harper (track 3) and Robert Johnson (track 16)...
these guys simply don't "do it" for me as musicians or songwriters for me...
I think theyre probably in the top five most overrated bands in the history of rock...
I do own around ten of their albums but there always seems to be a lot of filler on their albums...
great singles band, lousy albums band IMO...
surprised this one actually comes out with a like rating:
