JEFF HEALEY BAND  "see the light"  cd, 1988:

from Toronto...
JHB's debut album...
all blues rock...
several instrumentals but mostly vocal tracks...
he would die aged forty one from cancer just twenty years after this release...
a very good album...

from the album:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

Mike Batt - Waves - the only person (that I have ever heard) to accurately describe the motion of the waves in music. Sadly his Wiki page says he filed for bankruptcy in September of this year. Man's a genius. Period.

ALICE COOPER  "welcome to my nightmare"  cd, 1975:

Alice's eighth studio set...
a recent one for me....
by far his biggest seller....
a surprising eclectic mix of styles on here, was expecting hard rock
but instead got, everything but....
favourite on here is the controversial "only women bleed", my favourite of his..
MH loves "steven", not a man called Steven, the song...?!!
I cant see what he sees in that one, its probably the only thing on here I detest!
a great album I fell in love with on my first listen a while ago and it just gets better wit each listen!

cool live version from the 1990s...

JOHN HACKETT BAND – We Are Not Alone

Personnel:
John Hackett – Vocals, Flute, Guitar, Keyboards
Nick Fletcher – Lead Guitar
Jeremy Richardson – Bass, Acoustic & 12-String Guitars, Vocals
Duncan Parsons – Drums, Vocals, Triangle
Steve Hackett – Harmonica on “Never Gonna Make a Dime”

This latest release by flautist John Hackett and his compadres comprises two CD’s; the first We Are Not Alone, and the second Another Live which is a collection of live performances of songs from John Hackett’s previous albums recorded at the Classic Rock Society in 2016, those two albums being Checking Out of London and Another Life.

It came out in September, so not exactly new; the bottom line is that I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this one for a while now and just can’t get to grips with it. There are good elements, but the whole thing just sounds disjointed, and I’m afraid to say, is downright dreary in some places. I didn't make it to the live part - perhaps I should give that a spin. John’s flute is fine, and the music’s not terrible, nor is the production, but something just doesn’t gel, and the vocals leave me stone cold. Maybe it's just me, but I’m not going to try again (at least, not the first disc) and can’t even settle into it enough to do a proper review. Pity – I had been hopeful ...

Nothing on YouTube but here it is on Deezer if anyone wants to give it a try … http://www.deezer.com/en/album/49410402

JEFF BECK  "loud hailer"  cd, 2016:

was unsure where to put this one: rock, blues or alternative, but I chose this one...
background:
Beck wanted to record another album but he wanted an outside influence/co-writer...
he was at a party at Brian May's place and was introduced to Carmen Vandenberg and Rosie Bones
from UK alt-rock band Bones, they hit it off immediately and the rest is history...
all three of them co-wrote the album, Carmen and Jeff supplied guitar and Rosie provided vocals...
Rosie's vocals are very similar to Marianne Faithful's IMO...
a classy affair which brings Jeff Beck into the modern era of music as effortlessly as slipping on a pair of gloves
in winter...
almost perfection, and this one would be on my list of "desert island discs" for sure...
if you haven't heard it I suggest you go and take an hour out of your busy lives and listen to it, you wont be disappointed
at all!

I forgot to add:
Jeff Beck was asked in an interview at the time why he went so far out of his comfort zone with this album,
his reply was: "ive been on the cover of Guitar World Magazine probably 400 times in my career, I should be happy
to be on it every few months, but im not, I cant rest on my laurels of past glories, I have to keep moving forward for
my own sanity"

from the album, a cool live version of one of the tracks:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses - the remastered version which includes two extra tracks - both brilliant and should have been on the original release. It's rare an album gets 10/10 from me but this is one of them. An inspired piece of work.

'Oh the leaded window opened
To move the dancing candle flame
And the first moths of summer
Suicidal came'

Who writes lyrics like this anymore...........?

For the first time in a VERY long time the original Aqualung by Jethro Tull - it has not aged one bit. Still sounds as fresh as the day I bought it. Masterful.

Pavlov’s Dog – an annual airing, pretty much. I really enjoy listening to both Pampered Menial and At the Sound of the Bell a couple of times, and then off they go again, relegated to the back of the heap for a while ...
