Uriah Heep - The Magician's Birthday - a trip down memory lane. And a real trippy lane it is too.

And yet musically it's quite complex. Just listen to Mr. Tiran Porter's bass parts. Sheer wizardry. Wheels of Fortune & For Someone Special remain my favourite tracks. ^Fantastic bass! “Takin’ it to the Streets” is an instant good mood maker, but track after track of Michael MacDonald solo is a different story IMHO! I’ve been trying to listen to his new album and am finding it quite difficult – there’s a roll of credits worthy of a movie, a huge list of personnel and production people and great music and arrangements, but that voice is just too strident or something – forced – can’t listen to him. The album is getting kudos from all over the place – maybe I’m just a Philistine.

Yes - Close To The Edge
I'm starting to warm up to them.
Try - Tales from Topographic Oceans - be warned - make sure you have the time and patience to sit through the whole thing. Probably the most complex album I have ever heard. But my favourite remains 'Going for the One'. A stunning album.

I've heard that Tales is a bit self indulgent, but I will give it a listen.
I actually liked CTTE and I think it is great. Fragile also has some songs on it that I like. Yes seems to be growing on me.

No idea where to put Van Morrison who doesn't seem to fit into any category - not even alternative! i'm wallowing in No Guru, No Method, No Teacher. Love this album – it’s just so satisfying and sumptuous somehow … easy peasy …

Camel - Nude - the guitar work on this album is just beyond beautiful. A masterpiece of timing and tone.
