:confused: This is unlikely but here goes . If I was to mention the song Freight Train most of you would think of the one done by people such as Nancy Whisky , Rusty Draper and many others . It has been done by a lot of people .
However this is not the song I want to ask about . Now as I can remeber form hearing it played on the radio a couple of times many years ago though I could be wrong there is another song called "Freight Train ." or something of the like . However I was never able to catch the exact title or who was doing it . I was told it was called Freight Train and was Doris Day doing it . Well as for the latter , I am not so sure about that . However as for the song , well here are what of the words I can remeber .
It started off with the sound of the locomotives hooter , followed by a line , "Waiting at the station for the freight train to come by ." And the only other bit I can remember is "Locomotive , locomotive hurry round that hill ." Anybody by the remotest of chances know that song I am thinking of ? Thanks David

David,have you got an approximate year that you heard this song?Doris Day did record one back in 1953 ,but this one is "Chho,Choo" but the lyrics are not close to these you recall.Mary Travers of Peter,Paul and Mary fame recorded a song titled "Freight Train" and it is on a 1963 album by this trio.These lyrics sound a bit closer of the all the freight train songs.
There were several songs recorded back in the 40's, "Freight Train Blues" ,with Hank Williams Sr and Red Foley covering this song.Another was "Freight Train Boogie" by the Delmore Brothers.All three of these artists were at one time or another, members of the Grand Old Opry.

A few years too late to bring this back up but hear goes . As it is I did find the song I was looking for and as it turns out its origins were not what I had been lead to believe . As it goes it was by a group called Helen And The Horns . It is in fact British and not American like you would think it was to listen to it . Nor does it date back to anything like I would have thought . Would have thought late 1940's - early 1950's . However no . Written and recorded in 1983 .
What happened at a place where I was doing a part time job as a kid for two Sunday's in a row it was played on the radio . However never cought who was singing it and despite it being on Radio 1 which in the UK is the main up to date pop music station it did sound really old . Somebody who I was working with if I remember correct told me it was Doris Day which at the time I had no reason to doubt . However it could not be further from the case though had it been written many years before it was it was a song that the likes of her could have sung . It never got into the UK charts or anywhere else in the world . Somebody about two and a half years ago on Youtube put me wise to it .
