I had the idea Warren Zevon was one of those people who, like Jimmy Webb, was basically a songwriter and only later on decided to try his hand at his own recordings. He wrote several hits for Linda Ronstadt.

I also believe Zevon used to write tv commercial jingles in his early years also??

im sure theres others who were songwriters who ended up recording in their own right later on also.

but Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond and Willie Nelson come immediately to mind.

don't know about Randy but JB produced some of those tracks on that Best Of set

I believe Linda Ronstadt has recorded songs by all three. Not sure if there's any other connection.
