CHEAP TRICK "in color" cd, 1978
career stats:
studio albums.................17
singles...........................64
this album...............#73 US...#93 AU
singles:
"i want you to want me"....#97 CAN
"southern girls"................ no chart action
"so good to see you"......... no chart action
band's second album....
starting to find their trademark sound here, none more so than on the lead off single...
but their sales still weren't where they should have been at this stage, but then again,
UK punk and disco was the "in thing" back in '78....
they rarely disappoint me and this is no exception to that rule...
man they look so young in the linked clip, which also happens to be a superb live performance worth watching!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

CHEAP TRICK "heaven tonight" cd, 1978
career stats:
studio albums.................17
singles...........................64
this album...............#48 US...#84 AU
singles:
"surrender".............#62 US...#32 AU...#79 CAN
"California man"....... no chart action
the band's third album and second for 1978...
they were trying to find a sound on their debut...
found it on their second but they didn't know it because this one is more softer than that
one, I guess they were still searching to a degree, or trying to expand on that second one...
trivia: this is the first rock album that uses a 12 string electric bass according to Wiki...
album features a cover of The Move's "California man" and possibly their signature tune "surrender"...
their second album contained a track called "oh caroline", this one has "oh Claire", I guess they were stuck on girls names...
even though their sound is softer on this one that the others I own, I still like it..
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Just when you think you have heard it all - stumbled onto this early this morning - brilliant album! Never even knew this one existed. A great Xmas present - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aLIOVGrOSg

^^ I never heard of Don Airey, and I don't have time to listen to a small bit of this, but it sounds interesting and very proggy. Reminds me of some of Alan Parsons' work, or perhaps Jeff Wayne.

He used to be the keyboard player for Rainbow at one stage. Purple as well if I remember correctly.

The Moody Blues - On the Threshold of a Dream
This is on cassette, and the sound is showing its age, but I doubt I'll be upgrading to CD. This is a good album, one of their "Classic Seven", but I prefer Days of Future Passed, Question of Balance, and Seventh Sojourn, all of which I have on CD.

LOL I thought I was the only person in the world to still play my old cassettes!
I only own:
"in search of the lost chord" (vinyl)
"on the threshold of a dream" (vinyl)
"to our childrens children children" (cd)
"long distance voyage" (vinyl/cd)
"the present" (vinyl)
my favourite single of theirs is still their debut "go now" with Denny Laine on vocals and...
my favourite album of theirs is Long Distance Voyager, do you like that one bob_32?

my favourite album of theirs is Long Distance Voyager, do you like that one bob_32? Yes I do, I bought it not so long ago. Although it is not considered one of the "Classic Seven", it sits well alongside those earlier albums, after the misstep of Octave.
I was not so fond of The Present though. With Long Distance Voyager I thought they did a good job of sounding fresh while still maintaining their trademark atmospheric, almost grandiose, style that I liked so much. On The Present however there seemed little of the old magic. I remember listening to it track by track and waiting for a song that actually sounded like the Moodies as I remembered them, and it was not until track 8 or so that I heard one.
