And as a natural follow-on, I'm now listening to his solo effort 'Blues for Salvador' - it's not often that I play this but when the mood is right it's just perfect. The ideal Sunday evening wind-down album. Or maybe it's just the red wine kicking in...........

![]() COLD CHISEL "circus animals" cd/vinyl 1982 career stats: studio albums..............8 singles.......................28 this album.......................#1 AU singles: "you got nothing I want"....#12 AU "forever now".....................#4 AU "when the war is over".......#25 AU fifth studio set from these Aussie blues rockers... their first #1 album also, and since then vocalist Jimmy Barnes has only missed the coverted top spot on only a couple of occasions.... their usual mix of sounds on here, from rough and ragged barroom rock and roll, through to some amazing ballads... doesn't quite get the "love" grade but close enough IMO, their second best album also, after "east"... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: letter to Alan best track: when the war is over tracks: 1...you got nothing I want ** 2...bow river *** 3...forever now *** 4...taipan ** 5...hound dog ** 6...wild colonial boy ** 7...no good for you ** 8...numbers fall ** 9...when the war is over *** 10.letter to Alan ** 3s=3 2s=7 1s=0 rating: 2.3

Iâve been listening to Woolly Wolstenholmeâs solo stuff. His first release was titled Maestoso and that later became the name under which he recorded. There are inklings of Barclay James Harvest here and there in his music which is hardly surprising since he was a core member of that group, but on the whole, he sounds fairly definite and decided in the direction he took.
I was curious about the word maestoso so looked up the definition which musically speaking is ⦠âa movement or passage marked to be performed in a majestic mannerâ. Thereâs very little of his work available to be streamed on the apps that I can access, so Iâve been dipping in and out of this albums where there are clips available on YT. Three seem to stand out, One Drop in a Dry World, Grim, and Caterwauling (which I managed to listen to in full); the first two are concept albums. I think he was a brilliant lyricist and I would look for his albums. A troubled soul who felt things very deeply which is so apparent in his music. Why is genius so often linked to the deepest and darkest depression? This clip is a bit messy for the first two and a half minutes and comprises the opening track to Caterwauling which is a bit weird, after which it then moves into âSoldier of Fortunueâ which is well worth it, eventually, in my opinion. It starts and ends in chaos, and there is a point to that ...

Time to blow out the cobwebs - Rainbow - On Stage - probably one of the best live rock albums I have ever heard - Mr Blackmore is beyond brilliant on this. Their version of 'Mistreated' is explosive. https://youtu.be/ysGbtXt82lg
