I never bought their debut set but I heard it and liked it a lot, heard the second one also which wasn't bad...
I haven't heard the new one, but I have heard comments similar to yours mate so I gave it a miss...

I listened to your linked track, it started off nicely enough then all that electronic voice altering crap kicked and spoilt a perfectly good song!
