BAD COMPANY "straight shooter" cd, 1974

career stats:
studio albums........12
singles..................29

this album.........................#3 UK...#7 CAN...#1 US
singles:
"good lovin' gone bad".........#31 UK...#48 CAN...#36 US https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7yMgJSOksc
"feel like makin' love"..........#20 UK.....#5 CAN...#10 US https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEuKkcX1uKA

UK band's second album....
their debut made the Aussie charts, even spawned a couple of hits but this
one failed to chart out here for some reason(according to their Wiki page)...
a good mix of 1970s rock and roll and ballads on here...
songs still sound fresh and alive IMO unlike the other band who sound similar in BTO
whose songs sound distinctly dated for the most part...

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: Anna
best track: weep no more

Now and then Pampered Menial and At the Sound of the Bell get hauled out, dusted off and played, back to back, more than once, at high volume. Then, when I’ve had my fill of David Surkamp’s falsetto, away they go away again for a few months, but it’s always lovely while it lasts.

Some favs ...

"Gold Nuggets" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvXlnqc_U8I

"Theme from Subway Sue" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrPrl3l-UB8

and "Standing Here With You" ...

^Yep - another good one.

And I'm losing it - repeating words in that post .
Can't seem to edit. Aargh!

I have Dark Side of the Moon, like everyone else on the planet, but I have not played it in ages. However I am currently hearing "Us and Them" on a radio podcast, and rediscovering how unbelievably good it is.

Richard Wright - Wet Dream - commercially a flop, but I think it's a fantastic album - Snowy White & Mel Collins really shine on this album.

^I agree – listening to that album made me particularly notice Snowy White. Mel Collins pops up all over the place too … there he was on “Fingertips” on Camel’s Stationary Traveller when I listened the other day, which I hadn’t picked up on before – very nice track – interestingly no lead or rhythm guitars – only bass …

Shawn Phillips – Rumplestiltskin’s Resolve … < no spellcheck for that one! Simply stunning album which I have trouble slotting into any particular category but which also doesn’t seem to fit in ‘Alternative’. Progressive Folk/Rock maybe??

Anyway – whatever it is, the lead track (with fantastic piano by J. Peter Robinson) – and a taste of the exceptional lyrics …

“And here I am still smiling
In the intricate asylum of society
Well I got to be

And the effluvium of excess
It is hidden at the behest of mentality
Of a low degree”

David Gray - Life in Slow Motion - I really like the first half of this album but the second half does not do anything for me??!!?? Almost like the first half was inspired but the second half was just thrown together just to make up the track count. Anyway I like the man's music in general. 'The One I Love' is just such a feel-good track. To be played at high volume.
