I am not a big fan of metal, but always willing to give genre's a go. Can you recommend a novice a good band to listen to? :embarassed:

Iron Maiden is usually a good starting point. I am not a massive fan of metal, but some of Iron Maiden's songs I do like.

Metal is a big world and it also depends on if you like a screaming and such but I would recommend Opeth for a little screaming and normal singing and wonderful music check it out

I used to listen to 'Fear Factory', and had their 'DeManufacture' album. The bass guitarist played some good melodies. How would they compare to Opeth?

I don't know much about Fear Factory. What I know is Opeth a little bit off everything, if you want no screaming mellow and melodic check out their album Damnation but and the other hand if you just like some nice heavyness Check their album Delverance.

Opeth is actually one of my favorite bands. I like the acoustic work they did on Blackwater Park more than anything else by them.

Maybe also try listening to Porcupine Tree. Heavy in places, ambient in others and technical in others.

Good places to start with any genre are the classic records: Metallica - Kill 'em All Slayer - Reign in Blood Entombed - Left Hand Path (jump started the Scandinavian metal scene) Death - Human Celtic Frost - Into the Pandemonium Lately I've been digging bands like Neurosis and Isis. Both bands have an original take on the Metal sound.
