What Are You Listening To?
Only have two Hot Rod albums - Atlantic Crossing and Footloose and Fancy Free - I like both of these albums. My favourite Rod track of all time - https://youtu.be/3Z6tkCU140I?list=RD3Z6tkCU140I

I also have, from the 1970,
"atlantic crossing" (cd)
"every picture tells a story" (cd)
"blondes have more fun" (cassette)

ive also heard "smiler" (my parents vinyl)

plus I have around twenty/twenty five 7" singles, mainly from the 1980s,
and a couple of Faces singles.

his latest album isn't too bad neither, the rockers are average but the ballads are still superb.

my favourite albums of Rod's are:

"blondes have more fun"
"tonights the night"
"vagabond heart"

I don't have a favourite Rod Stewart track but "the first cut...", "I don't want to talk about it"
most most certainly be up there if I had to make a list at some point.

here's one of my favourites, its a Dylan cover off his 1981 "tonights the night" album

I love that track also Jerome...

as much as I like the rock albums "blondes have more un" and "tonights the night"
I prefer his ballads over his rock material as a rule.

my parents saw him live here around a year ago...
my mum has been a huge fan since the days of The Faces and said he was still pretty good,
the rockers were slowed down slightly to obviously accommodate for age but he was still worth
the money...

An artist I have just discovered – Colin Masson. He makes what seems to be called crossover prog – a good category for something that’s difficult to pin down - with precision! I’m glad no-one has said it’s ‘neo’ prog as I’m inherently suspicious of anything preceded by those three letters, lol! Largely instrumental with a few vocal tracks here and there – he plays a range of instruments, acoustic and electric guitars and produces his work independently. I need to listen some more to be sure, but I like what I’ve been hearing so far - alll solo efforts (his wife, Cathy Alexander contributes voice).

Aside from the above, he’s been the lead guitarist for a prog folk band call The Morrigan since 1984. I don’t know them at all.

Mr Masson is responsible for all his own artwork which is very nicely done IMHO – he was a graphic designer way back when, but says he stopped because he hated it, and took up gardening instead. Clearly he doesn’t have any problem doing it for his own pleasure – ain’t that always the way?!

Website - http://www.colinmasson.co.uk/index.htm

He’s released three albums - the fourth is presently in the works:

  • Isle of Eight
  • The Mad Monk and the Mountain
  • Southern Cross
  • Hunter’s Moon

On cursory listens and dips into all, I most like these three tracks from The Mad Monk and the Mountain …

“The Ends of the Earth” – can’t find a YT link

“Tilting at Windmills” – [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZDTVBsXVbU"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZDTVBsXVbU

I clicked on the artist website Ruby...
im a sucker for sci-fi as a genre (movies, art)...
he has some fantastic artwork on his page...

I listened to the excerpts from "southern cross"....excellent!

"the monk and the mountain" excerpts....excellent!

"isle of eight" excerpts on offer....also excellent stuff!

the excerpts with vocals, I love both his vocals and his wife's also!

I read the guy's biography also, very interesting.

the only problem I have is that I tried to download the screensaver for my laptop but it wouldn't do so.

did you manage to buy all three albums via paypal Jerome?

I tried to purchase them but one of them "the madmonk and the mountain" kept coming up with "file not found(404 error)"

I have sent them an email about the issue, but was just wondering if you had the same trouble.

Great! Glad you like his work. I haven’t heard anything I’ve enjoyed this much for a while! I too will be buying all his albums.

CH the proghead?! About that changing taste .... Seriously - it’s all lovely – I agree - he has a nice sense of humour too. Did you see the track I posted in Celestial bodies?

If you just right click on one of the actual pics you should find the option to save as desktop background. I have Windows 7 and that seems to work for me.

ok....right click, now if I can just remember which is my right?!

I have windows 8-point something so it should work ok also,
I don't know much about computers but I actually liked windows 7 on my old laptop better than Windows 8, I don't know why, I just did/do.
