I'm pretty sure my daughter loves these guys,
And pretty sure they toured here in the last year or so...
I don't like them for the reasons you mentioned above.

Ned Collette & Wirewalker - Over the Stones, Under the Stars
Australian-born musician, now working from Berlin. The music is rather hard to describe - melodic pop/rock I suppose, some of it a little folky.

thanks for that one bob_32,
never heard of that artist before, I like that linked track mate...
I know their voices are different, but I could imagine Tex Perkins singing this one

I know their voices are different, but I could imagine Tex Perkins singing this one I first heard him on RTRfm, where they played a couple of tracks from his third album with the band, his fifth overall, and I liked them enough to order the album. After enjoying it for some time I was motivated to check out albums 1 and 2, and ended up getting those as well, Nothing on those two albums however is as good as "Across the Frozen Bridge" from the third album; there are no clips on Youtube but you can hear the track on his site.

I went to his website, found and listened to the song you suggested,
lovely acoustic work, the strings add so much to it IMO,
thanks.

RTRfm is 92.1.
Mostly I find myself listening to their podcasts. They have a large variety of themed programs, but only a few of them are to my liking. One I try not to miss is Golden Apples of the Sun, which is broadcast on Sunday afternoons.
