Just bought the 14 cd boxset by Alex Harvey so I just finished uploading all the tracks & have all the tunes playing on random. It's so cool hearing stuff like Framed & I Got my Mojo Working From his early 60's Alex Harvey & his Big Soul Band & heavier theatrical rock like Midnight Moses & St. Anthony from his Sensational Alex Harvey Band stuff(which featured Zal Cleminson on guitar who played in the late 70's/early 80's w/Nazareth & the rhythm section of drummer Ted McKenna & bassist Chris Glen(both joined the Michael Schenker Group in the early 80's)[Image: attachment.php?attachmentid=2333&stc=1]

singles...................8

this album...............#1 UK...#6 US...#2 CAN...#2 NZ...#23 AU

"smile"...................no chart action

Mr Gilmour's third studio album...
all star cast in the studio...

three of the ten tracks on here are instrumentals, I usually like his instrumentals but they don't do it for me on this one...

I don't know why, but I don't like this album, I think "rattle that lock" and his sefl titled set are way better, but that's my opinion!

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Have to agree with you CH - despite the high-end production and the industry names it is essentially a weak album. Rattle That Lock is a far stronger effort.

I came to "On An Island" with no preconceptions. I had only heard of it once or twice, I did not even know it had been No. 1 on the album charts, but I saw it available at the local library and borrowed it.

My reaction was very different from that of you guys. I thought it was quite magical. there are overtones of The Division bell, but also something quite unique. I was slightly blown away by the fact that at his age, when many other artists (including certain other ex-PF members) are basically living on their legacies, he brought out something that actually sounded totally fresh.

Oh, and I also thought Rattle That Lock was quite weak. Not actually bad music, just sort of uninspiring.

Funny that you mentioned The Division Bell...
That's my "go to" PF album over all others.

Genesis - Seconds Out. The band at their peak. Might buy the remastered version of this.
