What Are You Listening To?

THE WALLFLOWERS "collected:1996-2005" cd, 2006

career stats:
studio albums................6
singles.........................13

no chart action stats for this album...

LA rock band fronted by Jakob Dylan(son of Bob)....
this is their best of compilation....
the vast majority of this album is strikingly similar to the sounds Tom Petty put out prior to the "full moon fever" era...
lyrically it is concise and intelligent like Petty and that of his father...
vocally, its nasally, again, like both the above mentioned artists plus on occasion, dare I say it....Mark Knopfler?
he even has that Dylan trait of expanding on words to make thing rhyme and fit together...
enough of the comparrisons...
this is a very good rock band/alt-rock/Americana outfit who hold their own in all departments...
its just a shame they never really achieved the success they deserved...

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Martin Barre’s Stage Left from 2003. Fabulous instrumental album – one sung track only. The title refers to his assigned onstage spot. These are not re-workings of Tull material; all fourteen tracks are his own compositions. There are some really good melodies on this album and it oozes class – very interesting. Too few links on youtube, unfortunately, but here is what is available –

“Winter Snowscape” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl91teHpBjY
“Favourite Things” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpxLRYqB0TY

Beardfish - Comfortzone - a recco from SteveO - VERY different to what I normally hear. Some great production touches as well. Very original approach to composition and recording. These guys think! I hear elements of so many bands in this - Zappa, Tull, Kansas, Yes etc. A real eclectic mix of stuff. Thx for the tip SteveO - really like this. Might just have found something that will hold my interest for once. Going to buy this for sure!

Strawbs - By Choice - I have a CD (not original) of this album copied from an old vinyl. Have not heard this since Pa fell off the bus. Last time I heard this album in it's entirety was around 1978!!!!
