What Are You Listening To?
fair enough.....
I couldn't get the Neil Young "a letter home" album til it was in the discount bin....
and I still cant bring myself to get the last Fogerty album because it was a covers album, and I own everything he has released.

I didn't know Patrick S. even sang.
Sad he died so young! I don't think he could sing that good
but I admire him for trying. I loved Ghost Confusedmile:

SHERYL CROW "the very best of....." cd, 2003

career stats:
studio albums.....................10
singles...............................30

this album................................#2 US....#2 CAN....#2 UK...#4 AU
singles:
"the first cut is the deepest"......#14 US..#15 CAN..#37 UK..#50 AU
"light in your eyes".................#121 US................#73 UK
"its so easy"............................no chart action in the major charts

first up, its difficult where to place Sheryl as she incorporates jazz, pop, rock, country and blues into her songs....
therefore I picked 'easy listening/soft rock' because that probably encompasses just about all of it there....
this one was released after four studio albums and contains most of her singles up to that point....
three new tracks on this one,all of which were issued as singles including a cover of Cat Steven's classic "the first cut is the deepest"...
I love her version of this, infact Ive only heard two other version of that song...Rod's and Cat's, I love both of those also(I guess I just love that song!)
a couple of guest appearances on a couple of tracks also with The Corrs lending a hand on "c'mon,c'mon" and Kid Rock sounding out on the Americana
style ballad "picture"....
all up a good representation of her eclectic career.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

first of 3 jazz flavored albums Linda did with conductor Nelson Riddle
I love this era of music that was the thing for the crooners of the 40's
Linda did her best to revive it
surprised this sold as well as it did
going 3x platinum and #3 on the charts
didn't know Linda had never married
recently diagnosed with Parkinson's

the title track

DIANA KRALL "quiet nights" cd, 2009

career stats:
studio albums.................11
ep's................................1

this album........................#2 CAN...#3 US..#14 AU...#11 UK

basically a jazz covers album(she records a lot of covers)....
all the tracks seem to be on one melody here, just no variation at all...
i'd like to hear a change in tempo on different songs...
I prefer to watch Krall perform as opposed to just listening to her, thus,
this album fails for me....

worst track: where or when
best track: too marvellous for words

Right On Crazy! For the most part I prefer to watch the artist perform rather than listening to them on CD..etc.!

Didn't know Linda sang those types of songs.
I loved her way back when! I like her other songs better.
This one just doesn't sound like the Linda I loved.

CAT STEVENS "tea for the tillerman" cd, 1970

career stats(as Cat Stevens)
studio albums.....................11
singles...............................26

this album...........................#20 UK...#8 US...#11 CAN...#20 NZ...#9 AU
singles:
"father and son".................................................. ............#9 NZ..#18AU
"wild world"....................................#11 US...#14 CAN

Cat's fourth studio album and first to really get him noticed around the world....
album only reached #20 in his homeland, his second worst position on the UK charts, and no charting singles there off this one neither...
a beautiful collection of easy listening/semi-folk/soft rock songs on here...
lots of meaning and feeling in the lyrics and vocals also....a lot of modern singers could and should take a leaf out of his book IMO...
fantastic album IMO

I LOVE THIS ALBUM
