I'm embarrassed to say that I own nothing of Rawls, or Withers and Mathis for that matter...
Not so worried about Bill or Johnny but I should get a Lou compilation at some point

nothing to be embarrassed about, as for lou if you're a fan then by all means get some of his work, a great addition to any music collection.

A factoid about Lou Rawls: when he'd play a week in Atlantic City, he would at his own expense have built a stage at a nearby Air Force Base and play a full concert. All band and singer expenses coming out of his own pocket. He may have done the same elsewhere (playing Nellis AFB when doing a week in Las Vegas, e.g.). Hell of a guy, sorely missed.
About all 3 singers mentioned: cruise AMG Discogs with an open mind--all 3 have surprising albums> Mr. Rawls, for example, has this, a particular fave of mine: http://www.allmusic.com/album/portrait-o...0000617870 and a song or two from it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERLI4vI9Jxg and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFft947gBkM (what a sax break on this~!)<< he started as a blues/deep R&B singer and that inflected all his singing--this CD just brings that to the fore.
A man accustomed to hear only the echo of his own sentiments, soon bars all the common avenues of delight, and has no part in the general gratification of mankind--Dr. Johnson
What he said. Amen, Bro--JazzboCR

NOTE: If you want to hear a current singer doing Lou Rawls right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Wws17ehdlM << Click on "Show More" for more on this sexy, sultry, adult singer. And https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Os3p2sW6GYA << Mr. Rawls did a killer version...but this ain't too shoddy.

VAYA CON DIOS "the best of..." cd, 1996

career stats:
studio albums.............6
compilations...............3
singles......................19

this album...............#1 Sweden......#3 Belgium.........#4 Norway...........#15 Austria

Jerome and I swapped several discs a while ago....I sent him several he never heard previously, and in return he sent me several i'd never heard previously...
this is one of those....
very eclectic Belgian group....
styles range from jazz, blues, pop, latino, big band, even a hint of gospel on my favourite track...
the female vocalist has terrific vocal control and breezes through the various genres with ease, her vocals have all the fragility of a butterfly's wings at times, they
then have the sultry power equal to the greatest female jazz vocalists in the next breath....
the album just grows and grows with each airing(and ive listened to this at least once a week since receiving it in the mail...)
its a mystery to me why they have never charted in the US/UK markets, especially the US with all its musical diversity...

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: stay with me
best track: something's got a hold on me

BOB DYLAN "shadows in the night" cd, 2015

career stats:
studio albums.................36
singles...........................58

this album.......................#7 US...#8 AU...#1 UK

I was dreading this one coming out of the stack as much as that stupid "a letter home" from Neil Young...
Bob's thirty-sixth studio release....
this time he has turned his hand to crooning by rehashing old Sinatra tunes....
this could have been a nice album, but his off key warblings detract from the good songs he picked to cover...
not really an album anyone should like, but their are a couple of songs that are okay on it(and I mean 'just ok')

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: stay with me
best track: if im a fool to want you

sorry, but as usual theres no Dylan links on the usual suspect!

tracks:

1...if im a fool to want you **
2...the night we called it a day *
3...stay with me *
4...autumn leaves *
5...why try to chance me now **
