Rolling Stones "hate to see you go"

first track released off their soon to be released "blue and lonesome album...
its a covers set, their first since 1964...
this track was written by Little Walter, an old blues guy from
down in Louisiana...
cool song, sounds like the Stones of 1964 with their original blues sound..
Jagger even pulls out his rusty cobweb ridden harmonica for this one...
it'll never make the charts but im sure the album will.

I'm even less interested in this RS album than I would be if it was an album of new compositions.

Established rock act does an album of blues covers. How original.

yeh I know...who hasn't done a covers album...

but im looking at from the perspective of like McCarntey those guys do get a lot of youngsters as their gigs (grandparents bringing grandchildren etc),
maybe some of those kids will actually appreciate their music and maybe some of those will look into their influences and maybe delve deeper into real music
and this album would at least give them an easy passage to discovering the "golden oldies" from decades ago, thus, the music will still live on for another generation.

that single sounds like they are enjoying themselves in the studio, no pressure, no stress, just letting their hair down and jamming pretty tight!,
and after being around for as long as they have I think they've earned the right to record what they want, when they want...

im not a big an of The Stones by any means, but to me, their longevity and continued success deserves so much respect.

same goes for McCartney, his last album , "new", was a bit experimental, as he tried to update and make himself relevant to the youth of today...
a hated the album with a passion and im a huge fan, but it is hard to knock a guy who is still trying to reinvent himself, when he doesn't have to,
he could have retired on the royalties from one of any number of songs he has written over the 50+ years and toured singing the same dozen tunes
over and over again, but he is still out there, cudo's to him too IMO, (and theres a lot of others who are doing the same, so no, hes not entirely unique
in that respect).

Well, McCartney is a whole different kettle of fish to the Rolling Stones. Admittedly there was that "Kisses on the Bottom" album a few years ago, but apart from that his albums have always contained new original songs - and, more important, songs that don't just rehash the same tried and true formula. I haven't particularly loved much of what McCartney has done since about 1977, but at least he presents a valid case for being considered a serious musician - unlike the Rollies, who even 30 years ago had already become basically a nostalgia act.

The Stones have the right to do what they want and record what they want. If people continue to pay to go and hear them play, why not. They just hold no interest for me, that's all.

i agree, they are a nostalgia band in my view also....

I do own probably eight or nine albums, theres a lot of filler on the albums, but when they were good they were very good...

but yes, they found a brilliant simplistic riff with the opening of "satisfaction" and they basically rehashed that riff time and time again over the years...
speaking of bands/artists who rehashed a riff over and over again we find AC/DC at the top of the pile,
with them, I thought their sound remained the same until Bon died and "back in black" came out, then they rehashed the "you shook me all night long" riff
for the next 30+ years.

I did see Mick Jagger solo back in the 1980s, I wasn't overly impressed with his live vocals when he did the Stones songs at his gig,
my dad saw them back in 1964 in London, they were on the same bill as the then just newly signed Kinks and The Who....
he has always maintained that Jagger and Co were the worst band that night on stage...

The funny thing is, I have heard a handful of tracks from Jagger's solo albums, and I like them a whole lot better than anything the Stones were doing at the time. Not enough to go and buy his albums, but enough to enjoy when I hear them on the radio.

I guess by going solo, Jagger was free to explore his musical side further without the constraints of writing with Keith Richards and sticking to the Stones "formula" maybe?
