Hello this is my first post here

I hope that it will be one of many more. I recently found in youtube this band, Alice Airbuzz, and I kind of like it, but I'm not sure of what genre they are.. They have synthesizers and they claim themselves as indie rock, but is it? I'm not good on recognizing some music genres so that's why I would like to hear your opinion.
What are the elements of indie rock?

Welcome aboard MD,esoe! As to your question regarding indie music I asked the same question awhile ago on MD and really didn't get a concrete answer!
Perhaps it's something to do with the fact that Indie bands are with an independent record label but having said that it's nothing to do with the genre or type of music they play. Just too many genres out there..it's ridiculous! I just enjoy the music.

Just a few short years ago, different cultures and countries were clearly discernible. With the advent of globalisation the world has now become a melting pot of various creeds, cultures and colours.
The same is true of music -it has become an aural 'soup' of different styles. Unfortunately there are very few noodles around. The word 'indie' is no longer relevant. It has become the thing it set out to distance itself from.

well as I remember Indie was a phrase that came to circulation in about 1989/90 groups like jesus jones the godfathers even oasis and perhaps EMF ,(you could even include U2) they were rock bands with a funky drummer .at the time . now I think the boudrys are BLURRed (pardon the pun ) and anything goes .. which is a much more healthy situation .

Indie was short for 'independent'. It was a name for rock bands signed to independent record labels.
At the time the term was first used (late 80s/early 90s) and in the UK it referred to bands that were rock but not metal or classic rock or goth - movements such as Madchester, Grebo and Shoegazing. In the US I guess the term was more or less synonymous with Grunge and Alternative Rock.
Anyway, Grunge and Britpop made indie/alternative rock more or less mainstream, then the indie labels were swallowed up by the major labels. So today the term is pretty much meaningless.
