Really liked him back in the ECM days (late 70's-early 80's)
Haven't really heard much of his recent stuff.

I have Pat Metheny Group's Offramp album from about 1980 or so on vinyl. Pity I don't have a turntable... One particular track on that, "Are you going with him?" is epic, with remarkable interplays between he and Lyle Mays as they take turns on Synclavier. The track "James" is another highlight, simply for Metheny's crisp, perfectly clean note playing.
I also really admire the stuff he did with Joni Mitchell, in particular the live version of "Amelia" on the Shadows and Light live DVD she did. This is
really mind blowing! Used to be up on Youtube, but I think the copyright owner pulled it
"As falls Wichita so falls Wichita Falls" also has some nice, mesmerising stuff. Like Music Head, I haven't heard much from him since the 80s.

"Lakes" may be the most difficult number I've ever tried to learn. It was harder than Zappa, harder than "Some Skunk Funk." His stuff with Ornette Coleman and "Zero Tolerance For Silence" are not for everyone, but I find that stuff to be the most rewarding.

I love his concert with trumpeter Don Cherry from the Montreal Jazz Festival ... very classy music in an avant garde way !!!
