I was listening to Lumsk this afternoon and it was all in Norwegian ! It didn't lose its' impression on me because I love their Nordic neo-folk sound and the beautiful singing !
Aside from opera, choral music and classical vocals, ( which I love to listen to also), what, if any foreign language music do you like ?
Also does the fact that you cannot understand the lyrics take away from its' appeal for you ? IMO it's still music !
Rammstein, Lacrimosa, Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, King Sunny Ade and Aster Akewe are ones that come to mind.

i think this subject has come up before??? maybe well before your time time here SteveO....but not a problem, i'll answer it again
i like French and Italian when ive had the chance to hear it
Edith Piaf is pretty cool, heard quite a bit of her material, have a couple of her tapes somewhere and a Martha Wainwright album of Piaf covers entitled "the piaf album" which is also good.
i like some "rap" also...if that counts as a foriegn language???

sorry guys
you all surpass me when it comes to this
I have to be able to hear (understand) what the artist is singing.
If it's another language, it might as well be la-la-la-la-la.
and that would get boring

I know what you mean MH! I look at it as just another sound that goes along with the music . That's why I enjoy what they call " vocalese " or vocals without lyrics.

I like the odd song here and there in Spanish but maybe it's because I can speak a little Spanish......
