Greetings All.
Iâm MoJoRaven. I reside in Upstate New York and Iâm pleased to have found this forum.
Music is one of the greatest passions of my life and has been since I was a child. While I do not play an instrument nor do I sing, music or music related activities take up the majority of any free time that I have. (In all honesty, music takes up a good portion of my workday as well as I incorporate it anywhere and in any way that I can.)
I have been frequently accused of âmusical snobberyâ but I prefer just to think of that as having clearly defined musical taste. I am open to nearly any music and will give anything a listen: once. I donât expect everyone to agree with my opinions nor do I anticipate agreeing with the opinions of everyone else. I do try to extend and I ask for respect when participating in discussion and I greatly enjoy intelligent and engaging conversation.
My favorite genres are: Rock (especially classic rock but also some modern/alternative rock ); Blues (classic and modern); and Classical (Baroque is my favorite but I enjoy some of the heavy masters as well). I do not prefer to listen to âpop,â âteeny-bop,â most âlove songsâ, rap, new age, or Christian. I do like some world music (particular affinity for Irish music) and some Reggae.
Music is, for me, a multi-sensory experience; I much more than hear it. Therefore, I appear to intensely like something or intensely dislike something when the truth is I am a lot less polarized than I seem.
I participate in one other music forum and am looking to find a bit of a wider base and more diversified conversation.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and enjoying some intelligent exchanges and mutual musical exploration and appreciation.

All of our members will "Listen to anything once" !!! We have eclectic taste in music. I can listen to Bejamin Britten and then Dolly Parton....???
Your fondness for Classic Rock is shared by us all. However there's more to us as you will see !!!

@SteveO â I feel you re: Brittan to Parton. Iâve been known to mix up a batch of Beethoven and The Fixx!
@Jerome â Ah, you got my number! I am usually all in or not in at all and I love what I see around here so far. I am hopeful that I can become a regular and valuable (if not valuable then at least tolerable) participant. One thing though (and I shudder to admit this as it can instantly change the way in which others perceive me); I am a female. I can hold my own though. ;-)
Favorite Albums: Always a tough list to compile (changes some depending on the period in my life) but also always fun.
The entire Zeppelin catalog is pretty much a staple for me with 4 being my over-all favorite; CSNY - Déjà vu and So Far - there were a few gems after Young left; John Lee Hooker â Boom Boom and Other Hits, Blues Legend; The Doors (entire catalog); U2 (largest portion of their work); Buddy Guy â Sweet Tea; Black Sabbath â Sabbath Bloody Sabbath; Nazareth â Hair of the Dog; AC/DC â Back In Black. Newer Stuff: The Stone Foxes are a fairly new band with a very classic rock/blues feel. I am enjoying their first two albums and newest single â King Bee; The Black Keys â most current full-on obsession. Getting the most rotations from me for the last while. I like their earlier work better than the most popular and latest: Brothers but there is no bad music here. Phenomenal talent. Actually feel like music might be saved! (I was terrified there for a while!) The Big Come Up, Thickfreakness, and Rubber Factory are perfection. The Black Keys are one of the best kept secrets of authentic rock and roll. Most recent surprise: Sean Hayes, Run Wolves Run (few outstanding tracks on here). Too many to list but these are, at least, an idea of some of my current favorites.

@Music Head â Have been thoroughly enjoying your genius posts employing the song titles from the best album polls. I used to write these sorts of things in communications with friends who either looked at me as if I were from Jupiter or dismissed me as "that musical fanatic" they had to tolerate. Loving your posts.
@Tiggi â Thank you for the kind words and warm welcome. Your knowledge is impressive. I am most encouraged that this is not the average music discussion group and am pleased to have found you all.

MoJoRaven - don't fret over the fact that our opinions might change because you have revealed that you are a member of the smarter sex - they won't. We are a bunch of old farts , well past our sell-by date, been through all the ups and downs of life and we still like the music that we heard as kids and probably always will.
