Louder, Please - Rose Gray - Mellope Album Review
OVERVIEW:
In parts, this felt like it was going above and beyond, and in others, it didn't live up to the hype. I think it does present some solid replay value! I was just chilling, and then I was hit with some pop bangers, so there is 100% some worth to be found. I like how Rose also tries to give an alternative path throughout the genres, and it really makes this project less boring! Overall, it's not at a perfect level and could be upgraded, but it's still pretty good.
TRACK BY TRACK REVIEW:
• Damn (6.5/10)
This really gave "I'm that girl" vibes. The effortless tone she says "damn" and the DJ replay sound effect at the end was smooth! It's an intro that really shows there's more to come.
• Free (6.5/10)
I love how free this feels and how this is really a single to just let go and enjoy. The way her voice repeats in the background is also quite catchy—just good vibes.
• Wet & Wild (8/10)
Rose Gray goes full stylish in absolute class! This is more than wild; it's absolute bonkers! Fun and a track we need for a summer party! You've heard repetitive EDM songs, but this one is a keeper that actually combines clever verses into a pop lifter—one we need!
• Just Two (5/10)
This felt like a huge step down from the previous songs. We've gone back to the generic dance roots, especially with the sample.
• Tectonic (6/10)
A chill electronic, R&B synth song that also sounds quite generic, but it's not that bad. A more alternative edge would've suited this better.
• Party People (6/10)
I see why this was pushed quite a lot. The techno-club vibe is more propelling than any other song to be played in a club. I'm for this—it's a good track.
• Angel Of Satisfaction (8/10)
This sounds like something that would be very good for Eurovision. Its lyrics have impact when talking about the darkness of the industry, and the production aligns with the pop-party vibe. It reminds me of if JADE was actually a good artist!
• Switch (7/10)
Loved the song; would've loved it slightly more if the music video wasn't as cr*p as it was. I didn't need booty and AI that makes no sense in my face every five seconds. What I do like, though, is her alternative twist on dance music, which has been showing throughout the album. This even has charting potential! It reminds me of Charli XCX, but much better.
• Hackney Wick (6/10)
Going into a house music environment was quite a different step from the past songs, but I respect it. It incorporates a story about Gray's parties in Hackney Wick. It's good music for house, but I don't necessarily think it's the best step forward for the whole album.
• First (5/10)
I suppose I'm not the first to say that this was pretty average. It was quite deep into the electronic groove and felt like it tried to suck you in more. This fell far from the mark, though; it just didn't compare to the rest of the album and felt like it was going astray from the original project—not a sigma move.
• Everything Changes (But I Won’t) (8/10)
This made me feel like I was slowly lifting into the sky. The vocals are heavenly, and the song is made for the mind. This is a must-listen.
• Louder, Please (7/10)
I like the end outro. The peacefulness and the chill take words really well!
BEST: Angel Of Satisfaction
WORST: First
TOTAL SCORE: 7/10
