Rhianon Giddens has impeccable phrasing and a superb sound. No screeching whatsoever, no unnecessary runs and trills, and a wonderful warm timbre. She knows how to use her voice as an instrument without being too showy or forced. This album is collection of self-penned or co-written original songs (bar the trad. right at the end) and is altogether pleasing, IMHO.
It encompasses folk, jazz, a smattering of soul, some funk, a little bit of country, a hint of bluegrass, a retro nod or two and the ghost of gospel, and she’s in a more playful mood than in some of her previous works, to my ears. One very accomplished lady and an engaging, satisfying listen that moves along at a smart pace – fun with depth. She always stands firm on societal issues affecting women, especially, and she does it in a pragmatic, intelligent way. I think the album title speaks to acceptance of oneself as good enough - or even simply enough. Could be wrong, but that's my take!
You know - when you are so happy to find you haven’t just wasted an hour of your precious life? That's me right now.
Speaking of which … “Another Wasted Life” …

I like this one with Jason Isbell … he’s the only feat. on the album, and only on one song …
