COLIN BASS, DANIEL BIRO ~ Still

May have to listen to this a few times before it sinks in properly. There are some lovely tracks but I did find myself getting a bit bored with Colin Bass's voice and/or vocal style - prefer the little instrumentals, I think. That said, I keep on having to check myself because just as I'm feeling disenchanted, up pops a song that really works. A collaboration between two like minded musos - largely ambient, a couple of acoustic instruments and some electronica. Bass is the bassist for Camel and has released several solo albums in various guises. Biro, I don't know at all but have since found that he is South African born and schooled in jazz traditions. The title is fitting - the album is still ...

The title track builds up to a beautiful wash of sound, I must say ... maybe it's good thing to keep having to go back and listen again ...

A female vocal would have worked much better on these tracks. His voice sounds too strained to me.

^Yes it does. He's not a great singer, unlike this chap who's been touring with Camel - Pete Jones -  a very competent multi-instrumentalist as well. He goes by Tiger Moth Tales and some of his stuff is little too rich or too English or too something for me - haven't found a whole album I'm smitten with yet, but some bits are pretty impressive ... nods to Genesis ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMvj4jfQYU4
